Peacock Paradise Buildup!

sjmantis

On the cliff by the sea..
So I decided on a peacock mantis finally after much deliberation. Got my 40br and drilled it today, that felt like it took forever! Here's some pics, questions/comments welcome

Drilled and ready for plumbing!

More to come next week :spin2:

glass-holes.com? thats a new one to me... Bookmarked :D

Nice new toy!! I have the Xti.
If you are looking for a telephoto lense for it I would recommend this one. Reviews call it an L series (luxury/Pro) at a base lense price. I have been known to use it as a macro lense, from across the room. :)

And if you are having a little trouble deciding between a house and a camera lense...

TBH I really know nothing about cameras. I did a little homework and buddy has this camera too and said it is really good. I gotta finish this tank before I buy any lens haha. So yesterday I got it painted and picked up most of the plumbing, spaflex was alot cheaper than I expected. Should have it all setup pretty soon. Still need LS though...

Painted, overflow installed, eggcrate cut.

On a side note, has anyone ever used this Spaflex stuff? It's really hard to work with!

Flex tubing is easy to work with as long as you treat it as "rigid tubing that can bend a little". If you are expecting it to be able to make 90 degree turns on a three inch radius, you are going to have problems. If you use it route a few inches out of the way here or there, it's great.

Regards,
Dan

I was thinking about using it with a couple 45 degree pvc pieces to route it into the sump. For some reason it's really hard finding plumbing pics of other peoples tanks

Yep, 45's are good. You can easily bend the rest of the way to make 90's.

If you go to Reefkeeping.com and look at their Tank of the Month archives, you'll see lots of plumbing pics -- some crazy setups there! Like, large rooms with dedicated ventilation and electrical panels, for all of the filtration. 1000 gal/day RO units.

The TOTM pics have lots of plumbing examples -- some bad, some good. You can tell which ones were thought out, and which ones were thrown together. Not all of the TOTMs are "crazy" -- there's even a nano in there. However most are, for sake of a better term, "get a life" tanks.

As for glue, I use this one: http://www.tchristy.com/redhotblueglue/

But yours appears to be functionally equivalent.

Got my lights and Tunze pump in today. I've notice some people use vinyl tubing for the return, seems a lil dangerous to me. I thought you had to use pvc?

Ived used vinyl with no problems and no clamps but hey the clamps couldnt hurt so you might as well. If you're concerned just use PVC, I like vinyl because it can turn and go places PVC can't.

looking good! i love these tank build threads. especially when folks use the tampa bay saltwater rock, and document all the little critters that come crawling out of the rockwork

Here's a quick mock up I did cuz I was really busy after work, lemme know what you guys think

I see nothing. Nothing at all. Nop can't see anything.
Cause if I watch this I may be tempted to get off my lazy tush and build my 165 reef.

What I can't see looks awesome though.

Why not just use flex tubing on the left, and why the three 90's on the right (why not just the flex tube straight into the 90 coming off the bulkhead)?
