Pencil urchin??

Hi everyone, I've been wanting an urchin for a long time so I went to my LFS to get tuxedo urchins but there were none and there was only pencil urchins. After researching, they are reef safe but with caution, I got 1. So far it has done nothing but move around and removing the last few patches of cyano, he did knocked over my yuma and discosoma but nothing much. Any thoughts and advices on this guy? Like are they really pure carnivores? Thanks.

I have one and I've never seen him eating anything but the algae and it's obvious where he was because of the little line of clean he leaves behind him. That's my experience tho not sure about others and he still may go rogue one day I guess??? I don't know I trust him tho

Yep, pencil urchins are risky and could eat just about anything including corals. However, I do have one and I would say they're omnivores and haven't had any coral munching yet. It's been in my mixed reef tank about a year. I also have a short spine and a tuxedo urchin.
