today i noticed one of my peperment shrimp apears to be carrying eggs. not sure thou she tends to stay in the crevices of the rock. My question is has anyone had a shrimp have eggs and do you think they will survive my fish . I dont think i would be able to get her out without removeing all my live rock so isolating her is not a option.

hey dave, my cleaner shrimp have babies every couple weeks i guess... unless you are on hand to catch the babies gently with a net and put them in a species only tank they will all die..

but dont worry they make for great fish and coral food :)... and its free

Bread Man is right. Its one of the free benefits of keeping shrimp in the tank. I used to have 4 pepermints and a pair of striped cleaner shrimp. that is until i added a spotted hawk fish. ate them all in a month. don't get a hawk fish. but before that all the shrimp were producing larvae every 3 weeks each. they carry them a couple weeks then release them at night. the fish go bonkers chasing them in the dark. like he said, great high protein, hi HUFA value fish and coral food.

the larvae can be raised and grown into saleable shrimp, but its a tough process. i tried it many times. got some up to about 21 days old before losing them. you need ther correct breeding system and most important, the right live food. which changes as they go thru many moultings and larval changes. before becoming recognizable baby shrimp ready to grow up. you can catch some with a turkey baster, or brine shrimp net. here is a little link to one guys try at raise cleaner shrimp.

you are welcome to try. its part of the fun.

Thanks DR. Mac, i just tested the Magnesium and it was only 1200. So ill be working on raising that between 1350-1500. Thanks for your help... this will also probally explain the reason my alk and calcium have been up and down so frequently.

Same here, mine breed like rabbits but I'm guessing they become fish food before I even see them.
It's funny seeing them with the red and white bodies and then the fluorescent green eggs lol. Sort of like Christmas.
