Peppermint Angel

ok ive done a bit of digging, and looked at a wholesaler who says if they can get it(which i doubt) retail on it would be 25,550+ shipping to the states. they export out of taiwan so.....wow.

There is a short list of people who have direct access to this fish... and none are in Taiwan...

I'll let Liveaquaria and Kevin unfold the details as they go public... and I won't mention details, but I will say that despite the common notion, the good old USA has first rights to this fish... :)

There are plenty of aquarists with the means and desire to spend that type of coin, but few that can couple it with the technical skill and ability and desire to give this fish the home that it needs...

No matter what John, This is really cool news. I agree that its not so much about the money as there are some major players that have the coin to drop, its also about creating the correct environment for this awesome specimen.

im not saying they can get it im just saying there saying they can get it lol if that makes any sense

I'm talking direct access to the fish... my four year old can buy and resell them from the DD (if they ever get one) if he clicks the mouse fast enough! :D

ya..... i doubt they even have the means to get it....and you say they can't get it direct....but if you want one for under 4k go to www.marinesgardens.com
i thought this was funny. go to dwarf angels and scrool through till you find it

Oh, and for those that do not know, I've confirmed just one peppermint alive in captivity (before recent news)... and it's the one on the cover of "Angelfishes of the World" by Kiyoshi Endoh... in captivity now for almost a decade... collected small and grown to full size in Japan... it's also the only fish the hobbyist owns... :)

I'd say double your estimate Matt; at least ;)

lol yea that's why i said upwards. i saw someone posted an estimate of 25k. if i had any money saved right now for a car or something it would go towards this fish. i am hoping that for some reason my family hits big in the lotto or i just get really lucky in a scarth off and win 25 grand. ha. what do you guys mean by "right" environment. i know they have to be kept at cooler temps and i'm guessing lower light because of the debts that there collected at. what would be the ideal set up for this fish. just curious in case i win big on a scratch off. it can happen can't it? :D ha. i'm just so amazed that this fish is coming to the states.

Hey Matt, first of all, it was great meeting you at MACNA! I see your crazy passion and it reminds me of myself when I was 16... I admire the passion we share as so little of us do, and the small group that we are should stick together and support eachother... Anyone that even needs to ask questions about this fish should not attempt it, at least for now... this fish has issues that are many, but in the right hands it could thrive... I always say "there are no angels that are hard to keep, only those that are hard to adapt"... Centropyge boylei is no different... :)

john, thanks! it was great meeting you too! my goal for that weekend was meeting you and hearing your talk. i got there early to make sure i got front row seats lol. i wish i got to talk to you a little more but theres always next macna right? :D and by no means am i even thinking of getting this fish but i am VERY curious of its care requirements. this is one of the most amazing fish i have ever seen and even just talking about it gets me excited!(yes i'm a freak when it comes to fish). :p

Thats not really fair, thats like saying get a Bodianus bimaculatus because they look like a B. sanguineus :p

Just get a peppermint hogfish, same colors just way cheaper :) :) :) :)

Let's not bring this thread down the road that many other similar threads have gone... and keep it on track as this is HUGE news in the angel nut world... we can all agree that flame angels are red, pretty, and cheaper than this fish, and that many people reading this do not want to spend the money on this fish and do not get excited by it... that's agreed on now, before we do it five pages from now with many arguments! :)

Now, is it any surprise Mr. Poletti posted the "I want a new fish" thread just now? It's clear the peppermint(s) will be his... Congrats Mark!:celeb1: :lol2:

You must really trust your Fedex guy... :lol2:

I do, I've had packages show up with the wrong address, but since she knows me and has seen my tanks, she just knew it was for me even though on the tracking it was marked as "exception" Ms. Fed Ex rocks :p

Sorry John, this was actually tongue-in-cheek, just showing the ridiculousness of such a statement... the peppermint angel is truly a unique fish (the closest fish 'like' it, a hogfish, doesn't resemble one at all)... I think we're all excited to see this fish hit the U.S.
