Peppermint Shrimp eating Stomatella

Like the subject line says, the other night I observed one of my peppermint shrimps pull a stomatella snail off the live rock and disappear behind the rockwork with the snail. Needless to say I was shocked. Thats the kind of behavior I've come to expect from my hermit crabs, but not the peppermint shrimp.

Anyone else seen this type of activity?

And on a side note, peppermint shrimp seem to be the only critters in my reef tank that can "see" red LED lights.

Never had a prob. with them before. But i've heard a lot of mixed feeling/stories from others doing similar stuff.......

I have seen the same with Lysmata amboinensis, my two shrimps have eaten almost all my Stomatella snails

I have the same problem. Are you making sure your pepps get fed routinely?
I don't necessarily consider it a problem, as stomatella have always been abundant in my tank and I've only seen it happen once.

I typically don't go out of my way to make sure that the peppermint shrimp are fed. I feed my pair of clowns once or twice a day, usually flakes but substituted with a variety of frozen foods also; I give the reef a good feeding ~1/wk.

I was really just surprised b/c I hadn't heard any mention of the behavior before, so it caught me off guard to see it.
