Peppermint shrimp

I have a colt coral that was pretty big and has shrunk to half it's size. I thought it may have gotten stung by a frogspawn coral; however, I just saw an article about peppermint shrimp eating LPS corals. Has anyone ever seen them eat soft corals. I have 2 shrimp in the corner that the coral was in. When I initially saw the colt, I removed it from the display and put it in my frag tank. It started looking better about a week later so I put it back in the display. The next day it was worse than when I took it out the first time.

I have yet to see a peppermint eat a leather but i guess it could happen.

-Was this coral big when you bought it and shrunk after adding to your tank ?
-How long have you had it for ?
-How close to the frogspawn ?
-What kind of light do you have on your Frag tank and display ?

Describe how it looks worse and do you have photos ?

The colt coral was medium sized when purchased. The colt was approximately 7 inches from a frogspawn. A rock was between the two corals. The frogspawn would have had to reach around or over to touch the colt. They were in the same postions for 6 - 8 months without any problems. The colt photo was after it was placed in the quarantine tank. The photo with the number 465 is from the display tank when it looked well. If the attachments don't work you can look at the photo album in my profile. I have 2 - 250 watt 14K metal halides and 4 VHO's over the display and 1 - 175 watt and 2 - 24inch fluorescents over the 10 gal frag/quatantine tank.

Ya know bud, i dont have a clue ? I would say the frag tank lighting is a bit much..I would look for these things,Old Bulbs,Change in water flow,Parameters . Other then that i dont know what else to tell ya..Oh..Love that tank man.

i had a peppermint shrimp once that HAD to be the son of satan himself. tthis thing at my hammer all the way down to the skeleton, and ate my toadstool still it died.

I saw a video on utube of a peppermint going to town on a hammer coral. Absolutely no flesh left on the coral when it was done.

I had a rogue gang of peppermints run through all of my rock anemones. I was using them to get rid of Aips, so I wasn't feeding the tank. When they ran out of Aips, majano's, and tulips, they turned on the ones I wanted. I started feding shortly after that, but it wouldn't completely surprise me to see one munch on something else it was supposed to...

I agree with gflat,I had a couple of peps that started in on my btas after the aptasias were gone.If not fed they will start in on other things.
