Perc question

I just started my first 40 gallon tank which has now a perc as the first fish in it. Now my question is do they do better in pairs or is a single specimen just fine?

that's a loaded question. personally they will do just fine alone, but if they have a mate you will see much more of their personality.

I like personality so I guess I'll get 1 more as my second fish.

i think there better paired. i had my perc for over a month by itself and she looked so lonely.. i added another one, and she swims with him and seems much happier

I agree a pair is the way to go. I had 2 (female? jumped out a small opening) so the other was alone. It was a night and day diffence between activity and personality. I just ordered another perc to bring some life back to him.
