percs laid eggs for the first time!

hey there. my approx. 2 year old percs laid eggs this evening while i was cooking. it took them about 20 minutes for the whole batch. from what i can judge, my lady did quite a good job for her first time, as there are approximately 150 or more eggs. ive fed very very much in the last weeks.

ive also got a video which is still uploading, will post it soon!
i am thinking about raising them, will have to find out tomorrow whether or not i can find food for the small ones in my area. would be great!

What kind of camera dif you use to do the video with? Really nice bunch of eggs. I don't have as many ad I did the first night and they ate now a greyish color they almost blend in with the rock.

sony tx-5, its a very small outdoor camera. its hard to take photos though as they laid the eggs behind a small rock, so the glass distorts the pictures when i take them from an angle. video is ok though

mine seem to be too inexperienced for their work as most of the batch has disappeared, from approx. 150 to maybe 10 in only 3 days

i'm hoping that they lay again and care better next time. already ordered premium artemia, selco for enriching and i will be getting brachionus for the first days. airpump and heater are in stock, still thinking whether phytoplancton or not.

do you have plans yet how to care for the larvae? there are so many different approaches on the net, newly hatched very small artemia seems the easiest for me as i cant get otohime A here in europe.

Hi Martin mine did the same thing but there are still alot of eggs left on the rock. They are now almost the same color as the rock is so I don't know what the means. But here is the article that I was referring to yesterday evening.

from what i get is that as they grow inside the eggs, they use up the yellow yolk and their eyes get bigger, this makes them look less yellow and more grey/silver.

have you thought about feeding your larvae? there seem to be tons of different approaches for the first month.

im down to 3 eggs, i hope the next batch will get better.

There is a large amount of detail that you will need to know to raise the hatchlings. I am learning as well... Since this is my first batch too.
