As long as water quality is good and they do not feel threatened they should spawn regularly. The problems come from trying to rear the fry. I have a pair in a tank that I maintain that spawn about once a month! The eggs hatch but I think that they end up eating the fry due to heavy fish population. good luck!
Well.. The chances are good if they have good conditions / diet ect. All fish are different though. There are of course no guarantees. Good luck if you get them keep us posted.
I acquired a pair of Percs about three years ago from a friend who moved out of state. He had them for at least a year. I think that most of the clowns that come through the local fish stores are maybe a year old. My pair started breeding a couple of years ago and are as regular as clockwork. Every two weeks. I have about a hundred 3, 4 and 6 month old young Percs. Now getting rid of them is becoming an issue as they are getting larger.
Good Luck! Be Patient, They are really cool to watch mature.
If you are trying to get a mature breeding pair be sure that the female is significantly larger than the male. If they are about the same size then they may be immature and you will be waiting quite a while for them to spawn. I waited over a year for both my Percs and Gold strip maroons to begin spawning
Thank you guys for all the information,it really helps alot! so if i was to get a mated pair i wouldnt really wanna put any other inverts or fish in there right?
When I was trying to breed them three years ago I had no luck. In retrospect I believe that they were just too young. After a year in their 75 gallon home they began spawning. The Percs home also houses a Yellow Tang Fox Face Rabbit and an assortment of small gobbies and blennies. The Percs will only lay eggs on a mostly dead cup shaped 3" Monti Cap that is right next to the finger leather in the Pic. When I remove the cap to collect the eggs they will just not accept anything else. As soon as I put the Cap back, Boom they spawn again. I have collected 5 batches since December and have about a hundred or so right now ranging from 6 weeks to 7 months old. I have sold about 30 of them to local reefers.
