Percula growth milestones

How large should perc babies be at 60 days. 90 days, etc. Do you have milestones that indicate you are doing well on nutritian? It looks like my first batch will be over an inch by 90 days or close to an inch. What size do you sell at and how old are they when they typically reach it?

Thanks in advance - Mark

They normally have to be over 3/4" to sell to wholesale distributors. Usually ranging from 5-9 months for me. A milestone is keeping them alive. Once you get past 4 weeks it should be smooth sailing.

I sell mine when they reach about 1,5" or around 6 months.

Can i ask what your feeding and how often that you have them at 1" at 3 months?

I second this question. Because mine are 7 months old and only about 13 are 1" and about 7 of them are 3/4" and the rest are under 1/2".

Mine were about 1/4" at 3months old and just getting their 2nd stripes.

Are you sure they are Percula's and not Ocellaris? I have heard and seen pictures of the ocellaris they grow super fast and get their stripes a lot sooner than the Percula's.

I have been raising True Percs for about 2 1/2 years now and this is about the rate that mine have been at. I have a pair that are 10 months old and they are 1 1/4 inches.

Mine have been on TDO products since they were little guys but still growing slow... I am having trouble finding cylopees here in Houston right now other then the one that comes in the combo package for PE. What other frozen foods are you feeding them since they have such tiny mouths right now.

They get Reef Caviar by H2O Life, San Francisco Bay Reef Plankton (put through the blender with a little tank water then poured through a rotifer sieve) and Ocean Nutrition Instant Baby Brine Shrimp. Their main diet is Otohime C2 now as EP1 is still too big.
About the Cyclopeeze I get it also in combo pack by Piscine Energetics it is the Mysis Shrimp & Cyclop-Eeze Twin Pack. I don't like the "cyclopeeze popsicles" the ones that come as a freezer bar. I feel they get freezer burnt before I can use them all. I like the way the cubes pop out of the tray and I can use just one little cube.

I can't find Reef Caviar by H2O Life anymore here in Houston. Nor Marine Depot is no longer caring it. One LFS told me that he could no longer get it last time he had some was a year ago.

OMG I went to Dr Foster and Smith where I got it and you are right no one seems to have it anymore!!! I have 6 bubble packs in the freezer. I guess after this it is find another food. Marine Depot out of stock as well.

I feed them the professional dry food you all recommended when I started. I feed them several times a day. Sometimes until they are not aggressively eating anymore. I also mix frozen, flake, and live. I am estimating that they are 3/4, they sure look well over an half inch. I will place a ruler in the tank tonight to let them swim around it to make sure I am not misleading you. I have seen people sell them smaller than this but that seems small and they are still developing colors. They dont have the awesome colors of the black ice parents yet. They have been throwing some that are nearly all white but I worry about feeding high enough quality to fully develop their potential color. I am new to this and I like to experiment a bit instead instead of always going with consensus so some of what i do may seem be out of the norm. But thanks for the feed back, it sounds like if mine are over a half inch at 60 days I am doing well on growth anyway.

I put some smaller fry in with them that are only a few weeks old. They have their stripes but mass to mass they are maybe a hundred times lighter. It is amazing that that is only two months diff.

reading through this I seem to be form color quickly also. The smaller batch i moved over I will check on the date of hatch later for you all but they developed their second stripe quickly, almost concurrently with the first stripe. I lost most of that batch experimenting with lower airation level but they got their second stripe while very tiny. I don't believe I am doing anything special other than adding ten times more rotifiers than they could ever eat and doing water changes daily.

I will take out my notebook for exact ages and the ruler for exact sizes when i get home today to make sure i am not mistleading all of you with my off the top of the head post. Everything should at least be close. Stay tuned.

OK Checked by notes. These are not approaching 90 days as I posted they are approaching 100 days. Sorry about that. I measured them directly just now by placing a plastic ruler under where they swim. With the exception of one runt which should likely be a cull, they are 5/8 to 3/4 of an inch. All have full first and third stripes, a could have a second (center) stripe that is not quite touching in the center. I do have a younger batch in there with them now less than three weeks and this batch several have a full center stripe already, thin but full top to bottom. Sorry if some of what I originally posted was off on the exact age of the older clowns. Thanks for the information all, it was very helpful.

Mark-I would love to see pictures of them for comparison. My true perculas are approaching 10 months now and they are just now forming their center stripe. When I got the parents over 7 years ago they had not formed their third stripe.
After looking at some other pictures on the internet here is a link that shows true percs that are 3 months old or around 90 days. No center stripes either?
Here is a picture of one of mine..

Wow, I must be doing something right, i have some videos of them on my fb page when they were much younger than the ninety some days they are now and they had most of their three strips almost completely. These are black ice percs I got the parents from a local breeder. I don't have very good lighting on there but i will try to shoot some fresh video of them. One of the group is solid white. I find that odd from the black ice parents. Even the runt, much less than half the size of the main group has all of his stripes. In fact their fins turned black quite a while ago and many are getting their black in their bodies now. Still don't look like the parents but they are fast approaching them. They hatched about the first of Nov, so they are just over three months old. Does RC allow me to post video?
