Personal Introduction

Hello Linda C. and Everyone

Linda I had the good fortune, few weeks ago, to meet you at the petshop. You were kind enough to introduce yourself and your bubbling enthusiasm for the wonderful world of Aquarium Reefs. Likewise I feel badly bitten by the reef bug :D If I cannot beat it then might as well join it!

Here's a little introduction about myself. Around 30 years ago I was very active in marine aquariums. Back then we did not have the technology nor knowledge to raise a thriving reef tanks full of throbbing corals with explosive colors. So after all these years I've decided to take another pass on this hobby with a new 12 gallon Aquapod which is currently cycling. Also have a new 90 gallon acrylic tank with plans for a larger reef community with fishes. But this next project will have to wait until next year.

So I've got live rocks, chaeto with pods on order. While the tank cycles I am going to hook up Pacific's chiller. Next on the agenda some sort of internal or external refugium.

I am looking forward to learning and reading from all of you!

Thanks for having me :)
Peter

Yes 2nd that;) Welcome aboard. If you have any Questions with the Aquapod feel free to ask.. We also have one. Familar with many mods for them.

in the livestock forums, you can find all kinds of goodies cheap (and inexpensive shipping on a lot of things). Think through what you want it to become, and visit the nano forums to see a lot of great looking little tanks. If you have sand on the bottom, get some "seed sand" from locals.

Welcome to the group Peter!

"bubbling enthusiasm" what I kind way of putting it....I can't wait to tell Tom, my husband, the way you worded it....especially with the incoming 535 gallon tank. I don't think that is the adjective that comes to his mind when I told him I'm taking out the door to get the tank in the house.

Linda
(I sent you a pm)

yes - and I'm "bubbling with enthusiasm" :-)

(thanks again Peter for that lovely description...I think I will be using it often)

Yes, that would be him. I'm getting it when he gets his 180 set up. He needs to transfer his remaining stock over to the other tank.

Welcome aboard!! Here's a link I posted for Lakeside awhile back just to keep you safe: http://www.cpsc.gov/CPSCPUB/PREREL/prhtml06/06111.html

If you need seed sand I can probally donate some, had to use a bit for wifes new seahorse tank.

Linda if you need help moving that beast let me know. I bet you had lots of offers to help but I bet Robin is just salivating to see that monster in person (plus I can threaten the kids if they don't behave that's there new home  )

Hi Ken668 and Thank You!

Hi Lakeside518 and Thank You! Indeed Aquapods are more fun than a barrel of monkeys! :D

Hi Michaelg and Thank You! Appreciate the heads up on the livestock forum!

Hi Krazy K and Thank You! I can tell we have great people here!

Hi Linda C! My goodness a 535 gallon tank with all doors coming off to shoehorn it inside? :D Is there no limit to our reef fever? And thanks again for sharing!

Hi UpstateDave and Thank You! Indeed I have much to learn so I'll be keeping my eyes and ears open!

Hi Scorp1on and Thank You! Appreciate the heads up on the Aquapod electrical shock hazard. I've learned about it a few weeks ago so well prepared with proper precautions. :) One can never be too careful!

So my live rocks should be arriving on Friday and the chaetos probably tomorrow. I've already stripped a rectangle piece of nylon from the back of chamber one. This chamber will be dedicated for the internal refugium where the chaeto will be growing. I'll be using 13wats palm power compact to light up the refugium. It's a real pain to port any extra plumbing past the fully covered hood. So things like a HOB refugium or an overflow box for external sump is not an option at this time.

Best Regards,
Peter

Peter, for future reference, don't purchase macro algae or live sand or such as the majority can be found locally for free from other members.

Hi Ken and Michael

Good point and thanks for the suggestions. In the next two weeks or so I'll be searching for green/brown pulsating Xenia and Green Polyps heads or frags. Unfortunately my time available to attend meetings this year will be severely limited due to my preoccupation with building a new home while the old one is up for sale. Plus I am tied up most weekends watching my toddler while wife is working. In any case I should find enough time to make a quick pit stop up to an hour drive from my Schenectady-Niskayuna location.

Regards,
Peter

Peter, I'm not sure if you are intent on getting a green/brown variation of xenia, but I have a nice colony of white/pink xenia that I frag on a regular basis. You're more than welcome to have some if you're interested.

Ken

Welcome Pete, we hope to see you at a meeting soon.

I can pass along, "kenya tree" frags, as well as xenia and anthellia.

Hi Ken and Matt!

I appreciate your thoughtful offer and thank you!

I've PM'ed both of you ;)

Best Regards,
Peter
