Pervagor melanocephalus (orange-tail filefish) in a reef tank?

small alien

The fungus is among us.
Has anyone kept the "orange-tail filefish", Pervagor melanocephalus, with corals? Anemones? Any experiences appreciated. Cheers, the small one

Never kept one myself, but I'd expect it to go after smaller shrimp, other inverts and to "explore" the corals.

Beautiful fish though.

I'm not sure if this is appropriate but I'm thinking I might get more info in the fish only forum. Oh great and mighty mods, would you please move this thread to fish only?

I just picked up one a few weeks back and I love this fish. Mine has been nipping at the live rock and appears to be going after aiptasia. It hasen't touched either my leather corals or my LT anemone but they are not generally considered reef safe. Mine took a while to get going, it was extremely shy and difficult to feed and it took about a month in the fuge before it got comfortable. Pictures dont do them justice, they are very beautiful little fish.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. They are beautiful fish and they really have a cool way of moving through the water. Mine hangs out under an overhang in the QT but also swims in the open a bit. It seems to have picked up that I mean food as it comes to the glass sometimes when I'm near. I will likely add it to my reef eventually. Cheers.

We shall see. It's playing nice with the other fish even though it's been pacing the glass some which I think makes everybody a bit nervous. Eats like a pig! I've seen it nip a turbo snail's foot! Haven't seen it nip any coral or nems. We'll see. It is a very funky and cool fish with a good bit of personality so far.

how about this?

Nice vid, still cant get a good pic of my little guy, swimmy is right he is always in motion. Lately he is getting into the nori clip and will wade right in there with the rabbits, angels and tangs to get some seaweed, it really is just amazing to watch. I am loving this little fish, so much personality, just like a micro trigger!

Micro-trigger is a great way to put it. I was thinking the same about mine. It hasn't bothered any coral or anemone so far. I've seen it nip at snails, mini brittle stars and asterina stars. Also.yesterday it manged to bite the snout of one of my pipes as they both went for the same copepod. The pipe didn't seem to hardly notice and I may have seen the file blush slightly.
