What kind of wrasse will do good job for pest control? Thank a lot for your input. This for my wife new 29gallon Bio Cube. :confused:

Which pests are you trying to control?

Monti nudis => radiant wrasse
Planaria/flatworms => virtually any halichoeres

Ostrow,

Worm (white color with many legs) and too many small shrimps. Sorry I don't know the name.

Is halichoeres reef safe?

Yes, I think so.

Minimum Tank Size: 50 gallons
Care Level: Easy - Moderate
Temperament: Peaceful
Reef Compatible: With Caution
Water Conditions: 72-78° F, dKH 8-12, pH 8.1-8.4, sg 1.020-1.025
Max. Size: 5"
Color Form: Yellow
Diet: Carnivore

I think 6 lines wrasse is the best choice, but I really don't like this guy.

Yellow Coris wrasse with do a Better job but if you have any Cleaner Shrimp when he gets older he may take a liking to him... Just a heads up- But they are great fish... :)

6 lines can become the biggest jerks in the world after they've been in a tank for a long time.... I would look into any of the Haliochores (sp?) wrasses for general pest control.... My brother has a Christmas Wrasse that does a great job, and Radiants would be right up there too. My radiant has been a model citizen.

The big thing is they might beat up shrimps or some other inverts if they get added later on and if theyre much smaller than the wrasse.... Usually if the shrimps already in there and you start with a smaller sized wrasse you should be fine.

Yes, the 6 lines is a jerk. I got one before and end up put him in the sump. Cannot find him now. He may jump out some where.

I'd get a smaller wrasse that loves pods, like a Leopard wrasse. The worms with white legs is probably a bristle worm and it's a harmless scavenger. If they get out of control it's easy to catch them.

mai, exquisets are nice but imo useless for pest control. i would suggest a radient, or some type of coris or even a small possum wrasse. it depends on what you are trying to control though. the term pest is too broad in this hobby.

One of my favoties Mai, be careful they are escape artists(they think). You may have to get it out of the back chambers once in a while.
Sounds like he's not fighting bad pests just copepods and bristle worm, should work out good.

Yes, bristle worm and flatworm is enough for me.

Gianni read here:

The Exquisite Wrasse is a great reef fish and is often seen cruising all over the tank looking for food. It is harmless to corals, clams, and ornamental invertebrates. It will help to control pyramidellid snails, which are harmful to clams, and flatworms.

Mai:

It may help. It may not. All Gianni was saying was they are less reliable at that than other wrasses.

Beautiful fish though.
