I have been having random issues with my tank. I wasn't sure which forum to post in so I chose here since the coral in question this time is my meteor shower cyphastrea. This thing has been growing great for a while now and left the plug and was encrusting out onto the rock. Monday I noticed the new growth on the rock had started to recede. Then again last night, the coral had receded back up the frag plug, and this morning it is where it is in the picture.
Everything in my tank is normal. all the parameters are in check, except I have been battling alk swings. I am still trying to get my dosing dialed in correctly but even with dosing I am still consuming more alk then I am adding. When I checked my alk after noticing the receding tissue, i was at 6.3 dkh
did a big emergancy water change and I am back on the dosing trying to get caught up. My question is, is this receding tissue a result of the alk issues or is there a pest that can cause this? is it worth it to pull the coral, and dip it and quarantine it, or cut it to try and save it? or just let it go and see what happens? My eagle eye cyphastrea and bling bling cyphastrea are uneffected. Everything else in the tank is doing ok at this time.
However I randomly lost 2 acros to RTN a few weeks ago, inspected them for parasite and could not locate any what so ever. Since the beginning of the year I have randomly lost 3 montipora to RTN. My last little piece went yesterday and I noticed the guy in the second picture crawling around on it. I can not tell if it is a normal run of the mill friendly copepod or if its a red bug.
If anyone has any input on the cyphastrea situation and an ID on the critter please let me know.
