Pet Mart in Saint Pete is having a 50% off (Via Store Credit) sale on all the AGA Reef Ready tanks.

So is a AGA RR 90Gal (1drain, 1return) with black stand and canopy worth 690.00 when you get back 345.00 in store credit?

They have an awesome Oceanic RR 140 that I love but they only have 25% back on those and with stand for 1100.00 I think. If it was 50% I would have done that last night.

They also have a AGA RR 150 Long for 1100.00 with stand and canopy and you get 550.00 back on that one in store credit.

So how do these prices stand up? Is it worth it with the store credit or still not good enough? I will need skimmer/pumps/lights even if I do build my own Sump/Refug. I would prefer to buy better for less by getting used but this does not seem all that bad.

PS I love the 140 deep over the 150 long. Any thoughts on that as well?

whats the price of the aga90 without stand or canopy?

buy the tank, use the store credit toward the stand.... but personally I don't need the stand.

Not sure on the price without the stand/canopy but I think the 50% back deal is on Aquarium Combo's only so you need to get them all.

Whats an AGA RR 90 cost normally without the stand and canopy?

Later, like 8-9pm'ish

I am wishing I jumped on that tank that Mike bought :) Its the 120 I am looking at now and would have saved me a ton but then I would not get to see Mike building that nice end table stand for it :)

I love the 140 but not the price.

I am finding prices for an AGA RR 90 of 285.00 - 289.00 NEW without the stand and canopy today. The kits from AGA cost between 44 - 55 each but I am sure you can build them for under 20 each. That means for the Stand and Canopy i would have to be able to build one for around 60.00 to break even on this deal at the pet shop. That would leave me with 345.00 to spend on some store bought gear.

I am interested in the AGA120-RR which I am finding for 480.00 by itself. So if they follow the trend it should be about 1000.00 with a 500.00 gift card for the tank/stand/canopy. I know they had the 150 long for 1100.00.

I figure that no matter what I am spending 500ish on lights/skimmer/LR/Sand which I hope to get used if possible but if I know I will be spending 500.00 in a LFS somewhere soon :) So why not there.

More later.

The one in Tampa will be having a similar sale March 3-4 but I believe you can order the aquariums and stands anytime and still get the discount. The owner is pretty nice.

Ill have to try to save up as much as I can by then mabey i can get a little something too. Seems like a very good deal. I mean by the time its all done it makes it a resonable price. lol

I'd recommend you research what equipment you want first and check out the store to make sure they have it. Otherwise you'll end up settling on something for credit that you just end up replacing down the road. FYI the petmart in tampa was very overpriced on fish last time I was there and I consider their livestock a risky purchase that MUST be QT'd.

This sale drew me in once and after I had priced everything the savings were not enough to make me feel comfortable locking all my business into one store.

IMO its better if you're on a budget to wait for used quality stuff on reefcentral, the classified, craigs list etc. I bought my 110 used and retrofitted it the way I want it.

I agree with him and I am researching the gear I want and pricing right now. I agree that having a 500.00 buck store credit sucks if I am also paying 20% more on everything I want in the long run not to mention if they do not have the gear I want. If they can order me what I want and the price is good thats another story.

I guess it depends on what u buy. They also have recently revamped the rewards program. I usually buy stuff like salt mix, inverts, and I've bought a bag of the frozen food cubes. At the last sale for example, I bought a 50 gallon bag of instant ocean for $15 and a very healthy purple firefish for $30 plus a few other small things and I got 60% back on rewards card that day. (Too bad my royal gramma killed it). Their prices are in line with what everyone else charges and are no more risky than any other store. I don't shop there exclusively but they do have a pretty good selection. For equipment I will say that you probably won't find a high end skimmer there. Billy is right you're better off looking here for something like that.

I bought some overpriced LR there and got a nice $100+ giftcard which i've been using to buy chemicals, small pumps, etc. Not a bad deal but the livestock is a little high sometimes. owner is very nice and the girls at the register are cute. ;)

they do have 11.99 lr tho.. :-0

no more risky than any other store.

I have to disagree with you on this one, in my experience Petmart in Tampa is the most risky store to buy livestock from in the Tampa Bay Area.

Yeah I am trying to figure out what they do have and don't have that would make it worth buying from them.

I can get the 120 AGA RR for 444.99 from Animal house while other shops have it for 485+ (again kicking myself for not buying the tank Mike grabbed)

I am still researching what I want to buy and if I want a stand and canopy or if I will build one myself.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Of course I'm not sure what your experience with them is exactly but everything I've gotten there has been fine, maybe I'm just lucky. Truthfully, I've seen just as many dead/sick fish in John's tank as theirs and the other stores I've visited.

I am suprised to hear this, I have always been treated very nicely and even greeted by name. On 2 of the 3 shrimps I bought there, they gave me the larger ones but only charged me for small.

Well he's been nice to me. Now I remember reading the thread of the guy who got kicked out. I've seen guys wearing yankees hats get kicked out of bars in boston. lol

Yes I did it seems :) I was just curious if a aga90 was worth 690.00 with the stand/canopy when I get 345.00 back in store credit for lights/skimmer/etc.

I really want a 120 but I am giving this one serious thought if i can get the rest of the gear from there with the 345.00 credit.
