Pet Mart

So Pet Mart is having a little "deal" so they say. They jack up the prices and then give you their little gift card deal to make it seem like you are getting an amazing deal. Personally, I would rather get it off instantly like what all the other stores do. I'm not bashing or anything... just wondering why bump prices up to try and mess with the customer's minds?

Why? It's called american commercialism. Nothing new, everyone does it. Theirs always a catch to everything.

I agree with you. We use to go to Pet Mart a lot but lately have found there prices have gone up and now do the gift card instead instant savings. We just cashed our our WOM card & returned our jugs we where getting water with. With the new way of doing things it doesn't make sense to drive there anymore.

I have to say that people who get fired from any company always have a bad taste in there mouth. I've been shopping at pet-mart for some time and haven't seen anything raise in price and actually I've seen some prices drop within the last few weeks. Also people have to agree that the opinion of someone who was ousted for mislabeling bags is always going to be in bad favor, especially when they moved to a competing store. I heard one of the guys talking about other stores in the area bashing pet-mart but I doubt many will be around for 20 some odd years like pet-mart has. Thats all I have to say.....

If they had better hardware I would have picked up a 120 from from because to be honest for 450.00 a 120 tank/stand/canopy is a very nice deal. Now 900.00 is about the same that all the others places I checked are selling the same setup so paying 900.00 and getting 450.00 in store credit is not a bad deal. Fishie prices are the exact same if not alittle lower than many places I have checked out.

I am not for bashing anyone until I have a bad deal with them. Now if only they carried better lights and skimmers I would already be a 120 owner.

The prices on Pet Mart's tanks and drygoods are not bad.
However, the prices on their livestock are on par with other stores even after you factor in their gimmick sales. The down side is the quality of their holding tanks, and therefore their livestock. It tends to be the worst in the area. I would never buy livestock from them.

last time i was there they told me they we're putting up all new tanks with better lighting/filtration.

1st post, defending petmart:lmao:

I was going to Petmart since 1998. I bought everything there, dog food / fish food / bird food / livestock / dry goods he had almost 100% of my business and I am a WOM member. Then I got educated on this hobby and cashed in on my points. I still stop in every now and then to see what has change. Petmart did in fact mark up there prices on this new gimmick sales promo whatever you want to call it for livestock and dry goods. You still get discounts but they are not that big of discounts as they appear to be, do the math and compare shop around online along with other local competitors...the quality is not worth the discounts in IMO. What do you want; the store is great for newbie’s. Lots of fish /coral /sales gimmicks/ dry goods very very attracted stuff. We are not bashing Petmart; we are just educating the local consumers.

That’s is my opinion:D

example, 30day guarantee on fish.

Fish dies with in that 30days. You have to bring the fish in(I do not know about most of you who have reefs tanks but if a fish dies in my tank it disappears) and your water quality has to be perfect!

the only thing i didnt really like about them was thier "gas station bathroom" feeling(nasty).

when i went in thier kooler to hold frozen food was in terrible shape.
this has been a while though hopefully its changed

i am not asking for it to be as sanitary as a hospital but that tells me alot of thier concerns.

well thats why i buy my stuff online. i can get two buckets of Reef crystals online for 31.99 a piece (dr. fosters) and on two buckets its only 10 bucks for shipping for both. so by the time i drive down thier and pay taxes it cost me even more.

but i also dont expect much out of them. they are what they are. a Biglots type of pet store.
so i can expect their husbandry to be less. and if management doesnt care then most of the time employees dont care. its just a fact of life

IMO - Thanks for the education for the hundredth time! They have these sales all the time and I think we went through this last month. Lets see - do you QT all fish, corals, algae etc? If not don't go near the place - it's not fair to your other livestock. This is just my Opinion. As far as dry goods - if you've done the research before purchasing you'd know it's not a good deal, but if you like the store no matter what other reefers say then it's a good store to you and that is what keeps them in business. If you like them keep going.

I chose not to go back because of the way I was treated. I don't need to make a big stink about it, so I won't. Let's just say that I spend lots of money on my reef tank, and they will not directly get any of it. The neat thing about being a consumer, is the right to choose where you spend your money. If I were in business for myself, I would make sure to treat anyone who walks through my door very special. I was at Finz the other day, and Chris(Owner), mentioned, "Hey, where is your little girl today?". As a consumer leaving his store, it reminded me exactly how easy it is to please a customer. Don't get me wrong, I don't need this level of service, I am in no way a needy person. I gave the owner of Pet Mart the chance to save a customer, he apparently has enough customers not to worry about my business. Isn't nice to have choices....

Hey karmaz, doesn't pet mart people keep getting banned accounts here on RC? Why is that?

This thread needs to die now... if anyone wants to read the stories of this store, just search the dozens, if not hundreds of posts here on RC to see why the store is not everyone's favorite. :)

Regardless to what you might think I like the Pet mart establishment and it seems that many don’t agree with my opinion, but the bottom-line is this is a forum and I still have the right to speak my opinion and people should learn to deal with it. Not bashing anyone but the negative opinions need to stop because it makes RC seem like a group of bickering people with no end.

pet mart is under new managment and everything is looking up. they got a new freezer and have new holding tanks for their fish that is going to be put up in a month. theit gurantee is 30 day unconditional which means your water can be junk and they will honor that. thing cannt be that bad there because every time i go their it is crowded. the prices of there fish are the same as other store stores. they do have a few very educated reefers working thier.
