Yeah T5's do cover more area. I am running T5/MH combo's on my 75 and I intend to run the exact same setup on my 180 that is sitting in my basement.
I consider myself a tight budgeted reef keeper so I try to keep the expense to a minimum although I must admit I intend to use two Vortech's in my 180 gallon and that will set me back close to $1K after shipping and tax. Then again by time I get around to setting that baby up my kids maybe grown and living on their own. Lol!
I also like simplicity therefore I won't be running any reactors and may not even use my Octopus Skimmer in the 180 gallon.
I do like how corals pop under T5's but the cost of running all T5's was more expensive than my current setup so I opted for a combo. I push the use of my bulbs for along time. I just replaced my XM 10k 250's after 2 years of use with 10K Reeflux. Most would probably have replaced them at a year.
Can't wait to see your tank up and running. Glad to be apart of the ride along. Also you have a beautiful little lady there. I have a 3 year old daughter and 6 year old boy. I love being a father but it has it's definite challenges. Tell your friend sorry to hear about his little girl breaking her arm. Both my kids have broken their arms and it is definitely not a fun thing to deal with at all.
