Well Marc, you made me look. I even got out some specs to take a close look, as you may recall that coral got the bugs real bad last year. But after a very close inspection and after taking a couple flash close ups I'm glad to say those small specs are just new polyps forming.:eek1:

As I treated for red bugs prior to starting this thread I don't think I ever posted any pictures. So, as a reference for others reading this thread, here is a picture of the blob when it had red bugs. A couple of months later it (and others) got a bad case of AEFW's that ended up doing way more damage then the bugs. Marc and SERVO helped me get through both events.

At the base of the blob that you posted:

I figured that may have been the case and at first you had me somewhat convinced that I may have gotten them again, so I took some more flash pictures 24 hours later and the yellow greenish spots are in the same place, or haven't moved. And they are more on the green shade then yellow in the other pictures I took.

Unfortunately I can't access photobucket from work to take another look or post another picture. I'll see if I can post a decent comparison later today.

I was in process of finally moving my lil chips colony when my 250w 14k's shut off, so, I turned on my 400 10k's to finish up. Not being a typical lighting scheme I decided to take a bunch of pictures

I have to say that I really love how pretty your millis are. And the reason I like them so much is because they don't have the polyp extension mine have. Isn't that weird? Everyone always talks about how the polyps are all out on my corals, and I think yours look cleaner because you can see so much more of the structure.

Are you going to the CFM this Saturday?

I would be interesting to do a little study on that. Not just comparing water parameters but somehow check flow, PAR, light duration, feeding, and other stuff. Those milli's get super fuzzy at night, to the point you can't see the structure beneath. They appear to be happy and healthy, but don't get near the PE during the day as others. I agree about seeing the structure and colors is nice.

as for the CFM, right now it unlikely, my wife and I have been pretty busy the past few weekends and we have a lot of seasonal stuff to do around the house that has been getting backlogged.

I'm closely inspecting that blob every night and day for red bugs, you seem to have a 6th sense about that stuff so I'm not taking it lightly.

Ever hear of Tangs nipping at polyps? I noticed that at least one of my yellows Tangs takes a sideways nip at the prostrata every once and a while and I just remembered seeing it do the same to a Mille once. It doesn't do it all the time but now I'm wondering.

Jay - the stag never has much PE during lights on but after a couple hours with them off it has very nice PE all the way till early morning. I'll see if I can capture a decent shot of it but I don't think I can get the whole thing.

Blue Tangs can in my experience. Yellows may be going after something else, and it just seems coincidental.

That may be the difference in my tank in that I don't have fish nibbling on specific SPS, so they extend more during the day time.

The redbugs could explain the closed up millis I was drooling over, actually. Once I treated my tank, it made a huge difference with several corals.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Still a gorgeous tank, even if it is an itchy one.

Sorry to hear the bugs are back, Pete. Hopefully, they'll be gone soon enough. Instead of pulling out the Crabs and Shrimp etc. would it be easier to quarantine and dip the corals seperately?

Thanks for the staghorn pic, that's one of my favorite corals in my tank. The mother colony is absolutely gorgeous, I hope my frag colors up like yours sometime.

not "the factory" (AKA acropora nana), that coral was totally obliterated / smashed to pieces trying to break it off the big rock it was encrusted on. I did save a small piece that is growing nicely but not getting color yet.

the red bugs are on "the blob" (acropora sp - unknown), they aren't too much of a bother and much easier to deal with then the AEFW's. Not sure where they came from but they could have hitched a ride on one of the 2 montes I recently acquired. We may want to inspect your system closely for them. These buggers are smaller the the last ones I had but it may be that they are juveniles

Next time you drop by we'll take a close-up look at my coral frags. I don't have any really big colonies for pests to hide in, so it shouldn't be too difficult to search.

Yes, Marc has a sixth sense about these things. Didn't he just find evidence of a mantis shrimp in Servo's tank? Marc is officially the "reef whisperer". Maybe that's why DaveJ loses a big dollar acan in his tank every time he picks on Marc. :lol:
