Petsmart starphire tanks

I think widmer is trying to say to you davocean, this:

Lot's of people come to Reef Central to get information that they can use to better or improve their own setups... In order to protect our investments, we need to know (i.e. TRUST) that the information we are reading is accurate.

When davocean said: "It's much cheaper to make in China, due to lack of EPA regs"..., widmer wanted to know if that statement is accurate.

Since davocean does not list any source or supporting documentation to that statement when asked - then one has to wonder if anything else davocean claims is accurate. He MIGHT be spot-on accurate about his statement - or he coud be completely wrong in his assumption that low-iron glass is much cheaper d/t a lack of EPA standards (if there even is such a thing for low-iron glass).

Big deal? Yes...because if davocean can not support his statements - then can we trust anybody else in the statements they are making here on ReefCentral?

We need to be careful about what we say in these forums so that ReefCentral becomes and stays a trusted source of information for our hobby!

Peace

Fact remains, that there's lots and lots of BS posted on this site from people that may or may not know what they're talking about. That's why it's wise to get numerous opinions rather that listening to the first person that chimes in.

If you want to draw an opinion on somebody, go read a number of their posts rather than just the one in your thread. You can typically tell after 5-10 if what they typically say is legit.

I'm kinda done with this thread now. Either way. I don't think Davocean deserved the blast that he got for trying to contribute. If everybody had to site literature to support every post, nobody would post.

EPA guidelines or not, you make me a low-e tank for less $ and I'm there.

When did It become a rule in a public forum that every statement needed to be backed up with a source. If he read it somewhere or someone told him that, whatever, you research it if you question it. He has no obligation to prove anything.

Totally agreed.

K. Now I'm done.

No matter how good the information on Reef Central is, it remains to be an internet forum. Every reader needs to use their own best judgment when reading claims. If we expect everyone to cite their sources on everything no one will ever post again.

If you're concerned about the validity of a statement made on here, go find out for yourself. There is a level of personal responsibility that people need to remember, not all the facts will be spoon fed to you.

Thanks to those backing me for merely chiming in.
Even OP stated this was a pretty unintelligable claim, and had no pictures/names.
So why is it he can make a statement w/out proof, yet those who chime in need written documentation?
This info came from a very reliable source, and the proof is sitting here in my living room.
Thats it, just telling what I know, take it for what you want.

OMG, some of you people need to get a life!!! Most of the time I can read the mindless banter on here and crack a faint smile or even chuckle, but this has to be the most ridiculous argument I have ever seen.

+1.

Where do you go to nominate a thread for thread of the month? It's been so moving...
I've laughed
I've cried :sad2:
I've rolled my eyes... a lot :rolleye1: :rolleye1: :rolleye1:

Anyway, if someone had some solid information that we can now buy aquariums with starphire quality glass at Petsmart, along with the prices, sizes and manufacturers of said tanks, THAT would be realllllllly interesting.

I didn't mean to sound too unfriendly. My only point was, if persay I had a starphire tank and if someone said to me "The glass in your tank was made over in China and caused a lot of pollution." I'd enjoy seeing some proof before feeling too guilty about it. That's all.

It's kind of common knowledge that about everything made over there is cheaper to make cause of cost of labor, Govt. manufacturing laws, and Govt. subsidies. I don't have any links to sources that confirm that, not going to find any and feel free not to believe me.

I doubt that's an accusation that you'll have to face.

Besides China is polluted enough at this point that the current pollution has grown teeth and just eats the new pollution for dinner.

I read that in Pollution Weekly March 24th Edition, Page 4, Paragraph 3, sentence 1. ;)
