Hello.. just looking around at your site. You have PFO 2 Bulb VHO Retro kits for 129.00. this comes w/ reflectors , right?

im wondering if you could comment on them? the light emitted, the ballast size, how loud and how does it generally compare to ICECAP..
i will be useing them as supplimental to my 250 w iwasakis.
i have PFO halides and theyve done very well. id imagine there VHO's will rock too. just wanted to see what commentary you might have on them.

thanks

Hi Frank,

You do not get a reflector for the VHO retro kits, that's true on our PFO, LN, and Icecap ones, this is because URI bulbs and most other brands have internal reflectors in the VHO bulb, so you really do not need them, but using them will not hurt anything.

On the quality, PFO is very nice. Icecap is still the king of VHO and is the most versatile ballast, but if you only plan on running 2 bulbs that are 48" or less in size, PFO is a great choice. You get an enclosed ballast box with on/off swithes (one for each bulb even), it's fully wired with power cords, end caps with mounts attached, just install bulbs and ready to go. So with all of those added features, you really can't go wrong with the VHO setup.

If you think you'll go over 2 bulb, or more then 48", or even compacts one day, Icecap is nice because it can run just about anything, but for 2 bulbs i think you'll be very pleased with PFO.

Hi,

You can run standard in all of them, but like Icecap, it runs more watts through them then normal, so you get close to a VHO bulb out of standard, but it will burn up the bulb faster, so will changed more often.

Jason, do you mean "burn up" as in bulb failure or a premature spectrum shift change? What type of period would this failure be on a regular 8 hr day schedule, 3 month, 6 month?

Hi,

They would just shift the spectrum faster. I'm not sure how long though, maybe 6 months or less, where you'll probably get 8-12 months out of the vho bulb. I'm just guessing though, i dont' think anyone really knows how long they last for sure.
