PH, Do you even check it?

I noticed in reading Alex Costa's January Tank of the month page that in his specs, he doesnt check the PH of his tank or keep real tabs on it.

I have almost gotten to the point where I dont even look at my PH anymore, its always High having my tank in the garage where it gets a pretty good dose of fresh air.

It got me thinking, How many of you even look at this number anymore with your tank? I have found myself ignoring it and just testing for Alk and Cal and Mag every now and then and walking away because Phos, and Nitrates are always undetectable.

Not really i only see what it is on my apex and I do not do anything for it..i try not to do to many things that can cause more of an issue ..

Same here, just monitor on Apex. I have an alarm set it it dips below 7.8, or reaches higher than 8.5 to send me a text.

This reminds me I need to check my probe I think its off it reads about 7.6 by day and 7.2 by night the last week but my alk mag and ca are all where they should be so I think its off

Doesn't that just tell you it needs calibrating?

I just watch the rollercoaster the Apex creates. I think it's neat to see the mini spikes when the doser is working.

I calibrate my pH probe monthly. I don't follow the pH but I do have my controller follow it and shut down my lime water dosing if it goes over 8.5.

I find its a good indicator if I need to does more alkalinity solution, but I never do care to check it on the reg.

I never checked PH, got a meter in a trade and drove myself nuts chasing numbers, researching fresh air intake , CO2 scrubbers.. Best thing that ever happened was battery in meter died. The PH hasn't been an issue since and who knows where the meter is.

I only check Alk. Calcium and every so often Mag. Pretty much all the post I have read about PH, is people saying don't chase PH numbers,,,, so I don't even worry about it, and my corals don't seem to mind

I have been dosing in the past and never paid attention to it, bought me a calcium reactor now that I am restarting the tank and was going to buy a new PH monitor just for it, however... Seeing as I dont use the one on the tank, I could more than likely just use the one that came with the controller and forget about monitoring tank PH....

Does that seem reasonable?

Seems reasonable... A very new and tightly sealed home may be one situation where I'd want to monitor, or perhaps a tank with minimal flow. Other than that, I wouldn't worry about it.

i have never tested it at all. I'm going to assume I'm okay.
