PH is low KH is high

The Ph in my tank is consistantly slipping to 7.8 and my KH just measured at 13. What is the best method to get my Ph to stay around 8.2 and my KH back in range?

What salt ? Are you dosing anything? Have you tested w/ another brand test kit? How old is the tank? Just things I would check first. Too hard to come up with a solution w/o more info.

If you really want a good answer, put all your params and anything you might be doing including any and all info on the tank and post the question on the reef chemistry forum. There are some chemistry geniuses like Randy on there. Just know that the more info you can provide, the better response you will get.

good luck,
Noah

How are you testing your pH? Your kH? If you're confident in your results, then I too would recommend some time in the reef chemistry forum; here's a great article by Dr. Holmes-Farley (aka Randy) that talks specifically about low pH...

My guess would be if I had to guess is that your house has high(er) CO2 due to being closed up for winter, and getting a little fresh air into your skimmer would help. My folks are just up the road in Ponte Vedra Beach, and I know the weather has been a litttle cruddy recently. Randy's article has some easy tests you can do to determine the cause of your low pH, as well as suggestions for correction, should you wish it. I think though that the consensus would be that your pH is fine (suggested range 7.8-8.4) as long as your Ca and alkalinity are OK.

I think Yogre has the right idea. I keep my own tank at a pretty consistant 8.2 to 8.4 dKh(Salifert test kit). During the winter when the house is closed up, the pH drops to 7.80 to 7.90 but if I can get the back door open for ~30 min the pH will rise to 8.1 to 8.2 without changing anything else. I use a calibrated Hanna pH pen for quick testing.
