I have just started, about 1 week into cycle..ph is 9.0 or higher, alk is starting to come up but have been fighting it from 3 dkh... it is now 6. I have been sing ph down to try to bring it into the 8's. Any suggestions?
Also using kent super buffer. It seems to be working, but have to use high doses.

The pH will drop on its own, if the measurement is accurate. Some seltzer water will help. I'm not sure that I believe the measurement, though. A second opinion on the pH and alkalinity might be very helpful.

How are you testing for pH, frog.pauley? All kinds of stuff is happening while your tank cycles. I wouldn't try to nail any levels at this point. Cut back on the Superbuffer and let it normalize.

LFS tested and suggested the kent buffer, but thanx for the advice.

Personally I would stop dosing right now. There is no need to try an adjust your alkalinity/pH at this point anyway. Once you are nearing the end of the cycle I would do a series of water changes to help normalize the system. Here's a good article for you. :)
