ok i just bought a ph moniter and i was wondering if the ph would be accurately read in the sump? i know lights have alot to do with ph so i put two little lights in the sump to help with night time ph and it looks like its working.

Most people put their probes, PH and otherwise, in their sump if thy have one. With appropriate water flow over 5x going through the sump, you should have similar readings throughout the water column. Typically lighting is only provided for the fuge to grow macro algae - I don't think you would want to light the whole sump and encourage algae down there, but not sure.

I agree, not problem with using the sump. The turnover rate is so high lighting effects have not bearing on it. The aeration may bring it up a trifle but not enough to be important.

BTW...you'll probably get a lot of advise on here to remove the damsel. I haven't had any but they generally seem agressive and a lot of threads on here about trying to get them out down the road. You may want to consider catching him while you can unless you're sure you want him long term.

i agree. i've had 4 damsels i had to catch after i aquascaped. it was very difficult to get them out. although i have 2 chromis damsels that seem very different in behaviour to the domino damsels and yellow tail blue damsel that i had to sell back to LFS for half the price. very aggressive, especially the 3 domino damsel i had who would pick on all the other fish and eventually each other!

lol

lol

how did u guys know i had a mean damsel? lol ive had him for three years and he is a huge blue damsel i got him out of my big tank and after i put him in my new 55 i have been kickin myself ever since! lol if u can catch him u can have him!! lmao

Lights will only affect pH in the presence of photosynthesis where CO2 is converted into Oxygen. If you have lights coming on at night over a sump filled with nothing but water and equipment, all you are doing is wasting electricity. You need to add some chaeto or some sort of photosynthetic creatures to the sump to get the benefits of the lighting/pH relationship.
