Phoenix 14k 250W DE alternative

My LFS texted me not more than an hour ago and asked me if I still wanted them, cause he can get them! I told him that was a stupid question! But before you ask, he didn't give me a delivery date or price. More to follow...

As an alternative, has anyone tried an XM 20K 250w recently? Reviews are sparse and some are ancient.

I've been burning one for a few days now. It replaced an 18 month old Phoenix and honestly, it looks less blue than how I remember the new Phoenix. But I cant really judge anything at least until after a week or two of burning in. Even then it can be so hard to compare.

So anyone else? XM 20K compared to Phoenix?

It's a magnetic ballast btw.

I did as a result of not being able to get the 14k and I actually like them more. I canceled my 14k preorder and bought 2 more xms BUT they have been discontinued as well. mine are more purplish than blue I have icecap ballasts.

Yep. I back-ordered 4 from Aqua Cave and got them earlier this week. Yay. Oh, and I have not used them yet so can't comment on how they compare to original bulbs.

We have redesigned our 250 Watt 20K DE HQI bulb. We will be releasing it in the coming weeks.

Higher PAR and great color.

First Review

First Review

Installed 2 new Phoenix 14K 250W DE bulbs today. They fired right up. After they warmed up, first thing I noticed is they are a lot bluer than the 14K Ushio bulbs I'm running now. And these are a 14K+ bulb. The Ushio even at 14K+ still looked white, whiter then a 10K. I'd say closer to the old 6500K us old guys used to run.
In case anyone is wondering, I compared them to some older Phoenix 14K bulbs I had saved, and they look identical. Same construction, same markings. I was afraid they were going to be a rebranded bulb, buy by appearance, and how they look running, I would say they are the real deal.
I'll let them burn in for a week or so and review again.
So happy that they decided to offer these again. Love the look of my tank now!
