phoenix 14k or hamilton 14k for sps tank

I ran the hamilton 14k and didn't like the growth rate of my corals. The color was great, but very slow growth. The phoenix is suposed to be a better bulb. HTH

i'm very happy with the phoenix i have. i've been useing them for allmost 2 years. but it takes more than good bulb to have good sps growth.

I'm using the Pheonix's on Icecap e-ballasts. Love the color. To me it looks like a Radium on a HQI. The corals are responding nicely to it's spectrum and intensity.

Do yourself a favor my friend...don't buy those hammy 14K's...basically threw mine away after burning a bunch of acro colonies....I'm now a radium man...

PHX are good I hear....may try some out around this farming outfit....

...Hi ol' buddy clocky!!! Remember me....LOL

???

Never used them..but the color they give is awsome...and nice PAR to boot...I'm near sold on them and never used them..

I will stand by radiums though!!

Hear great things about coralvue's somewhat new 12K reeflux...brings out nice blues...

I had coralvue 14K...didn't care for them ...decent PAR though...

how the heck did u burn ur corals with the hammys 14k... did u put the coral right up to the light lmao J/K...

i love the color the 14 k puts out.. growth is pretty slow but the color is awesome.. i have no burning issues whatsoever.. they throw off a decent par at about mid 300's with most electronic ballasts..

if ur not looking for fast growth go with the hammys.. im switching my setup from the 14k hammys to xm 10 ks with 2 tek t5 sepp. reflectors and 2 super uri actnics.. ;) im looking for growth..

I had the hamilton 14k but it was a 150 watter. It was very weak and not bright enough. The color was nice but just not enough brightness, hence the slow growth as others have stated.

I did get to see the phoenix in person and from looking at it, it was brighter and a bit bluer. Right now I am running a 10k aquaconnect and that thing is bright. Im thinking of switching to a phx for a more bluer look.

lol...nope those hammys are famous for suddenly (when still new) shifting color...one of three bulbs, I was testing with, went from a decent blue to extremely bright white.....lost a few thousand in bleached Bali maricultured acro colonies...before I confimed the light bulb was the problem...the other 2 hammy 14K's I used were decnt color WITH actinics...but near zero growth...heck those cheapo coralvue 14K's out did the expensive hammys on growth...both pretty dim bulbs...

But I'm after COLOR, a bit of COLOR and another splash of COLOR.....so 20K is my favorite flavor of halides.....My wife and 7 year old son's softy tanks with all URI vho's have awsome color and growth...but thats a horse of a different color...

But PHX will give you both excellant growth and awsome color...according to my studies...

mmm this thread is starting to make me regret getting a Hammy 14k for my tank :(. No corals yet though, Still cycling. I LOVE the color though. Its what I have been looking for in a bulb, but the no growth thing isn't sounding too good :(

I have the hamys, they really do have a very nice mix of white and blue, but I don't get great growth, some but not as much as I would like.
