phosban or rowaphos?

Im currently using phosgard and was recently reading about the leaching of aluminum into the water. I know that either phosban or rowaphos is the most used on this site. Im just wondering what is the better of the two, performance wise or price wise? Any comments would be great :)

I'm using PhosGuard from Seachem with good results.. so far.

I hear good stuff from DD's line as well. (rowaphos)

sjm817: I went to that site and was looking at the GFO stuff, but what is the difference between the high capacity and the normal GFO? I guess its self explanatory but still its confusing.

most products at bulk reef supply seem to have a video explaining the product specifically or that 'family' of product. This link will take you to a vid explaining their three types of GFO (phosphate remover). I've used their 'pellet' GFO for a bit, and am quite happy with the cost savings compared to the 'name' brands, but haven't ran any science experiments to prove anything about quality or longitude, just know the algae stopped like it was supposed to :)

+1 for brs gfo and carbon. i just ordered more from them (2lb of gfo and 5g of carbon) got it to my door in less than 36 hours with normal ground shipping

How is the durability of the granules? I will be placing it in a reactor and Im used to phosgard that is relatively hard and does not break down. Also, how often do they recommend changing out the gfo?

What does their price list mean? Is the base just 1 order of the bag and then the more you order the cheaper it will be?

both the gfo and carbon (i get the small sized) hold up very well to reactor use. i believe their price list is per/order, not for repeats, but it couldn't hurt to ask them!

the price list is a qty ordered at once discount. for example, the 1.25lb bag of carbon is base price of 9.99 & the 4-6 price is 8.99 so if you order 5 bags at once, you pay 8.99 each

also, if you have 9 other people who want to order something, look into setting up a group buy. they do everybody's order seperately (no sending to one person to be divided up) & everybody gets the maximum discount price for just 1 qty of an item (so for instance, the carbon would be 7.99 for any qty). the other great thing is after the group buy, your account is set to still get the 1st discount price instead of the base price ANYTIME from now on....no group buy needed. great for ordering more carbon, gfo, 2-part etc in the future

I like ROWAphos better than Phosban. But I recently switched to BRS high capacity GFO and I am very happy with it. I never tried the non high capacity so I can't compair the 2.

And just to compair the amount of fines between the brands. With Rowaphos or Phosban I would have to run several gallons through my reactor to get clean water. With the BRS HC I only had to run less than 1 gallon. There is hardly any dust in it. I was amazed at the difference.

Interesting stuff :). How much would you guys say I would need for the first buy? I think I used to put 1/2 a liter of phosgard in my reactor at a time.
