how does a phosban reactor work/setup? I keep hearing rave reviews on one of these. I want to get one but I need to know do I have to buy a pump or do you just put right in your sump. Any comments ccome greatly appreciated. Also were is the best place to order one.

You will need to buy the reactor, media, and a small pump to use with it (I use a MaxiJet 400, toggled way down though). Dr. Fosters/Smith have a package deal where you can get the reactor and media together and get a small deal. You could also try Premium Aquatics.

It has really helped my tank out a ton. My rock/corals got infested with this really nasty brown hair/tuft algae that took over everything, killing a couple corals and such.

It's been on the tank since about June, and things have slowly been dying off. Every Friday, I go through all the rock pulling off the dying algae that comes up in big long strips.

Now (It's not 100% gone, but my coralline has really started to take off again):

I'm with JokerGirl. I just installed a phosphate reactor on my sump because I was having trouble with cyano in my tank and fuge. I think the homemade fish food I made out of fresh seafood from the Japanese grocery store near me may have been preserved with phosphates, which then kick started my cyano problem. (i use 0 TDS RO/DI water) My cyano is slowly receding. It's great!

One thing to note is, if you buy a reactor, don't put the full amount of GFO (granulated feric oxide) in the reactor to start out. instead, put 1/2 the recommended dose of media in the reactor, so as not to shock your system. gradually work up to the full dosage over week or three.

They are really easy to setup and maintain.
I have pics of my two in my gallery.
One I use for carbon the other for Phosban media.

Can I hang this on the back of my tank or does it have to go in the sump area? Any pics of setup would be appreciated.
