phosban reactor ??

Ok, so i am thinking of adding a phosban reactor and carbon to our system.

from what i have read and been told by a couple people with stunning tanks -

the carbon gets replaced every other week - seems pretty straight forward.

the phosban - how does this work? does it disolve like calcium media? do you just replace it every other month? How does this reactor run? I understand the media says how much to use and to start with 50% and increase up slowly.

any tips appreciated!

Good question, WE just bought a Phosban Reactor but are running carbon becuase we are treating for FW's :( But eventually we will be running phosban to control hair algae and bubble algae blooms. I need to know the answer to this aswell.

i run 2 reactors, both fed from my return. they both dump back into the sump. one has carbon, the other has rowaphos in it. been trying different types of phos removal, but right now i'm using the rowaphos. anyways, i'm using 2 reactors because the two materials need different flow rates. you want the water to gently turn the media in the reactor.

you will have to test to see how often to change the media out. i have some rather large softies in my tank, so i replace the carbon, at least, every other week. can usually tell when that needs to go. as for the phos removal, i replace when my phosphates start creeping up. usually i try to test the water coming straight out of the reactor, when i'm testing for phosphates.

good luck-i think they are beneficial to any system.

IME, I have been running phosphate reactor(2 little fishies), and use 1/2 of the media of a 150 gram container of 2 little fishies phosban. I run this on my 28 gallon tank with 7 gallons extra in the sump, and 12 gallons of water in the fuge, total of 47 gallons of water being treated. I use the mini-jet 606 which works perfect for this. Using one pump, you can then link the outline of the phosban reactor to a second reactor with activated carbon, which would save you energy. I usually set my phosphate media to tumble lightly, like a boiling effect, if it tumbles to much, the media will turn into dust, which will get into your system, that is why I like to link the out line of my phosphate reactor to the in line of my carbon, which then polishes off and removes anything that would otherwise negatively effect my system, if overdosed or dusting is to occur...... Hope this helps, you will be amazed at your water clarity, using the dual system really makes your water crystal clear.... Good luck, hope this helps.....

just to touch on what pyle said is the issue with carbon is it can release very small amount of po4 into the tank. if you run it inline imo i would use it after the carbon. if you use little fishes media than it can be renewed in the oven if you use rowa or oceansblend then use a media bag. i get the most removal from the oceansblend
