I have had this sitting around for awhile now, and since i recently have had gha appear in one of my tanks again i decided to pop some into a filter.

Have about 220 ish gallons in my system, I started with appx 1 1/3 cups in a phosban reactor, sound ok?

Also using a maxijet 600 to feed the reactor, is that to much? should i go grab a 400? or something even smaller?

I have used an mj400 on mine and it also ran a carbon reactor and my UV. Even then I had to dial it back a bit. You want just enough flow too have the gfo slighty tumble, just enough so it doesnt become a solid chunk of rust.

Go very slow. Ferric Oxide is very efficient and can precipitously drop any available phosphate levels. Last time I added too fast and my clams retracted and all my macroalgae died very quickly. I would start with a slow trickle and work your way up to a slow flow.

The 400 will be plenty. I bought the dual reactor for carbon and phosban from BRS and they recommended a MJ 1200. This is way too much flow, I barely have the valve open on it and it's more than enough to slightly tumble the GFO.

I agree that a valve should be put on the inlet to control the flow. I usually just dump the whole container in the reactor and change when i notice the gha coming back.

I've always been confused by "slightly tumbling".... should the whole surface be tumbling? In my experiance with the one I had, only a small area would tumble, very small area.

Ya, i think you just don't want it so rought that it is breaking it into fine pieces.

Yeah, my PhosBan tumbles in the top couple inches, should it go down further? When I increase the flow the top particles bubble up over an inch, is this ok or too much?

You dont want it tumbling an inch, that would be too much I think. If youre using a two little fishies they come with a valve that makes it easy.
