phosphate media/reactor for sps tank

gotta a bit of phospates that i cant seem to get rid of. wondering if using some kind of phosphate media will help with the last little bit. if so what type would you recommend? tested and it is around 0.09 or so.

sps only tank/with 6 small fish

any help on this would be great. i have a small amount of algae growing and dont want to let it get out of control. in the past couple of months have purchased many frags (35 or so) and dont want to have an algae issue. also all coral frags are doing great. they have actually encrusted rather well and show no signs of stress. just want to head this problem off.

I use the Two Little Fishes reactor with Phosban. I use two of them on my 150 and one on my 75. Pretty cheap and works well. Just make sure that you get a small pump, like a Marineland micro jet pump or something. Nees about 85-90gph flow through the reator or the GFO will turn to dust and that will be BAD! Do you feed alot? And do you use RO/DI for top off and WC? How do you test for Po4? Check out this link.

I do not feed heavily. and use ro water for all top off and water changes. I have tested the ro water and no problems there. I am using the seachem test for not (planning on getting a hannah soon). i also do 25 gallon water change per week. just cant seem to get the phosphates down.

I just got the MR-1 reactor through Marine Depot, It is rated up to 250 gallons (or maybe bigger I cannot remember. I could hold a ton of media if you wanted to run different stuff and seems really well built. For the price I think it was a really good deal.

so what is the best type of media to use? phosban or rowaphos or is there something else to use that would be better? i also read about aluminum probs using some certain media. anybody have any ideas on this?

Umm I like Phosban.. This is the only type that I have used. It works very well for me. The key it just getting the flow through the reactor right. I test 0 phosphates with Salifert and API and 0.03 with a hannah.

Try the GFO in pellet form from bulk reef supply. Same or better quality than anything off the shelf and your not paying crazy amounts of cash for it. I saw some stuff at a LFS for $120 for a SINGLE pound! I about died laughing. Wish I could remember the brand off hand. 2-3 lbs of the stuff goes a LONG ways and lasts a LONG time. I change mine every 3 months & only use 1/2 a pound at a time.

Come to think of it this aint a bad idea. I have been hearing that all of the GFO in the world comes from the two suppliers. (not totally sure but I have heard it and read more than once) Might just check out BRS myself.

I use the BRS dual reactor for GFO and carbon and it only requires a single pump..

That is crazy!!!! I would have to :uzi: anyone that pays that much for GFO!!! lol J/K I pay $30 for a 3month supply of phosban and that's total for all three of my reactors.
