Phosphate reactor--why is it better?

So two questions

1. why is the phosphate reactor better than the same media in a bag/sock placed in my sump?

2. All the reactors look about the same to me. Is there really a difference in them? and follow up to this... which media do you think works best to get rid of the phosphate?

the reactor keeps the media (phosban/rowaphos/ or my favorite - GFO pellets from bulkreefsupply) in suspension, so there is better contact with it. If it just lies in a bag in the sump, there is little (if any) flow through. I have 2 - one for GFO, the other with carbon - both run on mj400's in the sump area.

More water goes into contact with more media. The media is also used more efficently because of this.

so are the reactors pretty much all the same?

and.. can i put both carbon and phosban in it? or do I need two for that?
