Phosphate Removers

Just wondering what you all use...I have used Phosban before...but never in a reactor. I actually ran it through a cannister filter before (but that thing is long gone - some of you know why ;) )

Anyway...what do you use?

Thanks Nate...do you recommend this over the Phosban? Is it ok to just put this in a bag and let it sit in the sump with one of the baffles running over it?

edit: It looks like this is recommended to use if not using a reactor, so that is cool. I was looking to buy a good size (1000g)package (do you know if it breaks down or anything - should I not buy a large package)?. How long does this stuff last before you need to change it?

Thats ok...Thanks Dave. I have used the Phosban in the past, but it looks like (from what I can tell) the PHOSaR is recommended if you are not using a reactor...

No Granular Ferric Oxide doesnt degrade, well wont degrade in your life time anyway...lol...i would say if you are going to buy that much i would do what dave said buy it from bulk reef supply and get the pelletized ones.

I bought bulk GFO from what is now bulk reef supply. I use a 1/4 cup at a time and replace it regularly like carbon.

Ok...well...If I went with the PHOSaR it is $50 for 1000g (.05/gram) from Marine Depot. If I buy the pellatized GFO from Bulf Reef Supply it is $40 for 900g (.044/gram). Seems like a wash for me and since I am already doing the Marine Depot order...I can save on the shipping. Only question is are they apples to apples as far as the product goes?

For me PHOSaR is the best. I have tried a few but PHOSaR really works great. I run it between my baffles in a media bag and change it whenever I think of it about every other month. I don't know if I need to do it that often but I have been. In my 65 my phosphate levels were out of control and the PHOSaR made them undetectable within a few weeks so I know this stuff works. I have not tried the bulk product the others are recommending. It may work just as good but I can't comment on that. PHOSaR is really popular on the SPS forum which is how I found out about it. If it is good enough for them it is good enough for me :)
