Photo Management software question

I have an older Nikon coolpics that's good enough for my purposes. However a year ago I replaced my computer and transferred all my pics. I just went ahead and used the pre-installed windows program and I hate it. Any pic pre-upgrade is dated August 2010 in one huge folder. New pics end up in a whole different area that doesn't come up when I click on my pics. It's a royal pain just to find a pic.

I'm not a photo geek and just want a simple program that identifies pics by date taken. I still have the original Nikon View disc from 2003 and could install that. Just wondering if there's a simple, easy and free alternative ?

May want to take a look at Google's Picasa.

I personally use Lightroom, but it is expensive for just photo management (although it rocks!)

I have some friends who use Zoner Photo Studio and really like it.

Yep. I also use Lightroom for a large majority of my editing and organization purposes. Unfortunately it isn't free. If you know a college student they could get you a really good deal on a license.

+1 to Google Picasa. It's free, it's easy to use, it has batch processing in it.
