Photo Printer

My dad asked me to post this here. He is looking at getting a little photo printer for the house. He doesn't want/need anything outrageous. The only size he really needs to print is 4x6. If the ability to print 5x7 or 8x10 is optional then that is fine, but not necessary. He has a ministry with the church where he teaches high school kids and college kids how to cook basic stuff (or not so basic based on their cooking abilities) that they can do in a college dorm. He likes to take pictures and then would like to be able to print them off right there so the kids can take them home.

Long story short, he basically wants to turn his D3000 into a Polaroid.

Thanks guys,
Brett

Sorry, I haven't been paying attention to the photo printer market. My older Canon printer is still going.

I have a Canon Pixma Pro, the quality is excellent. I also have a all-in-one Canon MP series printer, it does a good job at doing 4x6 also.

not sure what Nikon has. I know Canon has a system where you can just put the flash card directly into the printer and print that way. I am using a large format printer several years old now and have no intent on upgrading so I too am not sure what the latest technology is.

Yeah, that's what I am hearing around the various places is that everyone loves their one from like 3-5 years ago haha. The one that you can put the SD card in sounds like a place to start...

By the way, the all-in-one MP series I own, does have a usb and a multi media slot. Also has a built in LCD screen for viewing and does prints as big as 8x10. Though, all I've ever done with it, is use it for a scan. :)

I must say that Epson makes some fine photo printers. I definitely prefer to use those when printing larger prints (8x10 and up). I do have a Canon Selphy series printer that only does 4x6 and is highly portable. A little slow and a little uppity at times but it is fairly solid. Just get a higher end model of it.

The Selphy's use Dye-Sublimation versus ink jet or laser. 1 cartridge layers on the colors. Neat and clean. I've printed on laser and not a big fan for photos when I'm printing them. Not sure what the big print houses use when I send my stuff out.

Yeah, he already has a PSC from HP, and wants to get away from that for his pictures. He is looking for something compact? I guess. Something he can store the desk until he needs it...
