Is there a preferred brand of photoplankton and particle size to feed zoas?
I just got 10 zoas delivered and am acclimating them but not sure if I should be adding any suppliments or feeding.

Hello :).

I would not say phytoplankton will directly feed your zoas but may indirectly feed them by feeding other organisms in your tank or by even decaying after a while. IMO I would not dose/feed phytoplankton for zoas. They will get nutrition from the proper lighting and nutrients in your tank. I do feed some mysis and chopped scallops to the ones that will show a feeding response. Also look into how the current plays a part in the zoas health.

Phyto is basically useless directly in a reef tank since nothing really eats it directly. You're better of buying pods or a product such as Reef Chili or something designed to feed the corals. Keep in mind that most zoas won't pick up much from filter feeding and you kind of need to target feed to have a major effect.

Save the phyto for feeding your own pod colonies. If you really want the extra work.

Thanks for the help. My problem is I don't have adequate nutrients and trying to figure out how to increase nutrients.
The tank (125) is 15 months old but still can't growmacroalgae inthe fuge and the nitrates are always around 5 ppm. Have a small cyano problem but getting it under control with water changes, less feeding, filter sock & a good skimmer.
