phyto anyone??

sure! from what i read and adam says it is very good for any tank. if Paul T goes to the meeting i'll give him what i can spare. i have 3 strains going right now. Nannochloropsis, tetraselmis and some strain i got out of DT's, im thinking chlorella but not 100 % on that. anyway its all good for your tank, whatever strain you use. I alternate them and sometimes mix them together to feed.

Yeppers, I'll be going to the meeting... Sometime this week, bring the stuff on over and I'll put it in my fridge until meeting day...

Hey Jpitts, phaeodactylum tricornutum. I would think this is the strain you have. I know that Japenese chlorella (nannochloropsus) is green algae. I would assume the chlorella in DT's is the same color. I'll see what I can find about this particular strain.

okay, that went well, lol. found lots of info, but nothing telling me what color the stuff is. Oh well, from what I can tell, it's a diatom used primiarily as a source to enrich the EPA value of artemia and rotifers. I found this site that lists nutritional values for various strains of phyto. check it out and see what ya can learn.

no prob travis! hey adam have you thought about doing rots?? the guy that i have been getting all my phyto from also does rots and i was thinking about trying them also. from my understanding the only thing you need is a heater and live phytoplankton ( which i have ) and be pretty accurate on your SG? does anyone in comas culture them?

Several people here in COMAS culture them. I recently got a starter culture from someone. Tried em out, seemed like it was something I would be able to do if the need arises (like my clowns spawning one of these days) But since I don't actually have a need for them yet, I fed all mine into my various tanks and did not keep a culture going. Theres just as many variables with Rots as there are with Phyto so I'm going to do a smidge more research before I get serious about culturing them later on.
