First read and study this:
http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/feb2003/chem.htm
Then if you decide lime is for you:
http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2005-01/rhf/index.php
FWIW I use saturated limewater at about 4 gallons/day which supplys about 95% of my ca and alk needs. Any additional tweaking and adjusting up of the ca and alk I use:
http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-02/rhf/index.php
During this time of year with cooler temps I barely have to use any of the two part but when temps are warmer I have to adjust every couple weeks even though the limewater use goes up to about 6 gallons/day as well since I replace all evaporation with saturated limewater.
