Pic of my Red & White stag

Ya red is always subjective. Dark pink? Red, depends on who is viewing it. I have seen the red robin look pink, but also really red. Clint Conway also has a nice red stag as well. The link below is what the coral looked like in December when I posted a few pics from my tank. Bit further back in the tank though.

Picture 7 in the first post. Oh how they have grown :)

 I just meant that's how it looked.

So, are pink SPS hard to come by now, or are people just getting excited about pink corals being called red? I don't think I've ever seen one that's even close to being red, except for Eric's Red Robin.

Do you have a pic of Clint's?

Now that I think about it, the polyps on the superman danae can be pretty red at times. Especially under Reeflux 10k's.

Agree! Most people are always excited about pink corals being called red. But pink is pink and red is red. It is not subjective.

The coral in the picture just look washout to me. Yes, it is subjective now. :)

I can probably find one of Clint's red stag.

Now the polyps on the superman danae should be red without doubt, well at least the ones from the Soloman Islands. I can get a pic of that for sure. :) The stag now that is a different story...

I feel this also goes back to the pastel vs. dark colours discussion as well, that being red. vs. pink. Think it is tougher to get a dark red in low nutrient water. I had a piece of photo No. 9 from my above noted link in a local sponsors display tank under t5, and it was red, unlike the photo from my tank. I suspect higher nutrient than my system and well, t5 lighting.

Hi, 250G,

Great work. its is superb nice piece you got there.

Question: did you place it directly below the MH light where it is most intense? & wwhat K is your light, hitting it?

Thanks! Lighting is as noted in my signature. Coral is mid tank, but gets a lot of light as it grows towards the top of the tank. Again, generally darker in color in other peoples tanks as I run the tank with pretty low nutrients.

I have to say Clint's thin red stag is definately red. I have it in my tank and it has kept an incredible red color, polyps are red as well.Very sweet. I can imagine this red stag, the red robin, etc. going to a more pink color in someone else's tank for a variety of reasons. I am thrilled that Clint's red stag colored up even more as the frag settled in. This is definately a keeper coral :). Here is a shot of Clint's thin red stag frag in my tank from last month. Sorry it is a little blurry...Definately Red :D.

Brian, that is an old shot huh? When I got my frag a few months ago, last time I was there, his colony was much larger than that picture. Definately Red :D.

Told ya Clint's red stag is the real deal!

Yup you did...Most definately the real deal :D.

Alicia,

How does it compare to the Eric's Red Robin? I've been thinking about adding one of these two.

Karl
Clints Red Stag is very red its a thin branching as well as tabling it is a real sweet peice. You might also ask Tim i think he has both.

Karl, I have not seen Eric's Red Robin in person that was holding the red, for that matter I think I've only seen it once. Sorry no comparison for ya. I am very happy with Clint's Red Stag, it has a finer more delicate growth pattern and will sort of table out a bit as it gets bigger. The Red Robin seems much thicker. My tastes run more to a thinner stag which works well because I don't seem to have enough flow in my tank to get the thick trunks on other stags anyways. Karl, You need to make a road trip and check this red stag out ;).

We have both the Red Robin and Eric's Red Stag. Both are frags and very hard to tell the two apart. I can not get a clear pic of Erics Red Stag, but I have an Okay pic of the Red Robin.
