Picaso trigger freakin out.

Hey everyone, nice to meet ya. I have a big problem i setup this 55 gallon reef with 50lbs live rock and sand. Everything was great, ohh this was 6 months ago as well. So i bought a fish from a not so great place and i got ich. I did not know the reputation of the place at the time and was eager to put some livestock in so ya. Got ich, and now found out i have to put the fish in a QT tank (which i now have. It has been running for close to a month now.) the ammonia just dropped off to 0 but have nitrites in it still and have been waiting till it all reads 0 to put the fish in. I also used a ich med called nox-ich. I took my corals out and put em in a separate container with all the necessities and dosed the tank i have dun that a few times untill i learned that it doesnt kill it and that i have to do hypo or copper treatment. So the fish were fine there immune systems were fighting off the ich. Well suddenly my picaso trigger starts rubbing his sides on the rocks. Mostly just one side. So i scooped him and put him in a breeder cube that floats and now that he cant scrath he is going hay wire, absolutely crazy tryin to scratch his side. I have been watching and he seems to have a few blackish bumps on his one side and possibly the other as well. It doesnt look like little white ich spots or black ich spots too me but im not expert at all. I need help with this so i can treat him asap. I have pictures as best i could get. U can see the blackish bumps on his side right by his gills i belive this is what is causing the issue. Does anyone know what this is, could it be ich just infested in his gills. Please any help would be greatly appreciate. Sorry might take a minute im on a cell phobe and am tryin to figure out where the pictures r i took

ok here r the pic. the little black dots all over the body r just the shadows from tiny bubbles that were in the way. its the blackish bump by the gills

I don't see any black bumps by the gills. Stupid question but you don't mean the bumps by the base of the tail vs the gills do you? Those are normal (sorry had to ask). In my experience having a Picasso Trigger for 10+ years, they do not like to be in small spaces and could be why he's freaking out. How big is the breeder cube? How large is the fish? How is the rest of the water paramaters? A little Nitrate will not hurt a Picasso in my experience. I have always had a FO tank with higher Nitrates an mine lived happily in there for many years. They are exceptionally hearty fish. I would let him go and continue ich treatment if you think that is what they have. The added stress of being in the small cube is not good. Good luck!

First the 55 gallon is too small for this fish. Second all those mess, Non ich, Rid Ich, etc are garbage. Third, not a good idea to dose copper in a reef tank.
If you are seeing black dots it probably is black ich (turbellian worms). Standard treatment is prazi. Some people have dosed this in their main/reef tank with success.

I don't see anything out of the ordinary in those pictures.

I would get the fish out of the breeder cube first and foremost. Being in a confined space like that will stress the fish out, especially since he has a parasite and needs to relieve the irritation. Please read the stickies at the top of this forum about how to treat for Cryptocaryon (ich).

Thanks for the replies, I do belive it is the ick infested in his gills. seem to b alot better in the QT under hypo, not scrathing or rubbing anymore and seems to b alot better. yes i know 55 gallon is to small but he is 2 inches right now and in less than a year i will have a 200 gallon just workin on setting it up slowly here. i have all the equipment just need the tank so wont b much longer. water parmaeters r perfect 0 am 0 nit 0 nitrate ph 8.2 mag 1350 cal 450 d.k.h. 12 salinity 1.025
and i didnt intend on doesing with any copper the nox-ich contains no copper yet i know is no good at all and not good for reefs at all. it was a mistake off bad advise. now i know how to properly deal with the ich all should b good in about 90 days. thanks for the help

oh and he was only in the breeder cube for about an hour but coulda been the small space for sure

If you have ich on any fish which was ever in the display tank, your display tank has ich and all fish would need to be treated and the display tank left fallow for 72 days.
