Picasso Clownfish Question

Well a few weeks ago, my Female Grade A Picasso Clownfish decided to jump out of my tank. So now I just have the little Male left. My question is this...

They're probably way too young to even think about breeding, but if I end up ever having the time, money, room and patience to attempt it, How do I pair him up to get Picasso's again? Do I pair him with another Picasso, or something like a True Perc, or Onyx... or is it a crapshoot regardless?

Thanks.

you could pair him with another picasso, probably the perc and onyx too, but you have to make sure that they new one is alot bigger than he is so that it will become or already is a female.

He makes a good point.

The question then becomes how long can your male be alone before he receives the environmental cues to become female. Without a female present a male with at some point become a female. How long does this take....I've read it can happen as early as a few days after the absence of a female. It all depends IMO on the age of the male and personally if it was part of a pair I think it happens very quickly after the absence of the female.

There of course is no way for sure to know but I say the quicker you replace your female of attempt at a smaller male the better.

How about a pic of this guy?

P.s. I collect lone clownfish just so you know :)

Thanks for the responses guys. I'll have to start looking for a replacement then.

One thing that wasn't saaid is that you don't have to keep him male. You could also get a smaller fish and let the current one debelop into female and the new one would be male. Get whatever perc you want as far as coloring. Some people like to have their pairs look alike, but I kinda like the "inter-racial" perc pairs.

I agree with Bues. I would try to find one as small as possible and let your already male become the female. By the time you find a suitable female, your male may already be transitioning to the dark side...the last thing you want is to end up with 2 females...

Thanks for the info guys. I decided to sell him as I really don't think my current tank is suitable for clownfish, and I can't set up another tank right now. So he'll be heading to a local guy's tank who also has a lone Grade A Picasso.

Here's a pic of him from today.
