Picasso, percula & Darwin.

I have a picasso paired for over 2 Months with a regular percula. Today i stopped by my LFS and found a great deal on Darwin black clowns. I couldnt resist & i picked one up. I know i have a pair & just dumping the new Darwin wont help at all. The question is my picasso (female) is about 2" the percula (male) is about 1". The problem is that the darwin is about 2.5" i was told from where i got it that the clowns from breeders are kept in groups & thus stay males. I want to try to pair the darwin with the picasso but will this work even though my picasso is already a female but would the male being bigger cause a problem? Btw Darwins grow bigger so im thinking this darwin is still a juvi or atleast still male?
 
I'm not entirely sure that's correct info from LFS. I wouldn't chance it. It's never a good idea to have more than 1 pair of clowns in a tank. & always pair a smaller one with the existing clownfish if you decide to re-home the perc.
 
I am willing to put my Picasso pair up and say your 2" Picasso is not female yet... Remove the regular percula and you can choose to revamp the tank or not... Temporary remove the Picasso then intro the Darwin into the tank. Wait about an hour or two then intro the Picasso. They will probably have a feud since I'm thinking they are still both males. If that is the case just watch them. If one submit and I am thinking its going to be the Picasso then you should be heading in the right path for them to be paired up. Good luck
 
Just a little update. I removed the established pair for a few hours while the darwin was hetting adjusted to the tank. A few hours later the picasso was introduced & all hell broke loose. I added the smaller percula & the pair seemed to protect their little island where the nems are located. The darwin gave up & now hangs out on the opposite side of the tank. The darwin is trying to host a large torch i have so i think i will pick up another nem & place it there.

By no means am i encouraging people to try 3 clowns as my fish have only been together for 3 days. But i do believe that the more nems in a tank the less agression you will have.
 
Why risk it or tempt fate dealing w/ animals lives in your care? It's only been 3 days...Sooner or later you'll end up w/ 2 clownfish (probly sooner in that 60gal tank). For every hobbyist that has success keeping more than one pair longterm (2+ yrs in 150 gals or more), there's at least 15 or 20 posts about warfare & death. Like I said in another thread--I wish I had a nickel for every time this topic was brought up...

Im only keeping 3 not 2 pairs & i dont plan to keep them long term together. If i notice any agression i will remove the darwin & sell it.
 
Hopefully you'll be around when things go south. It can happen in an instant & won't be pretty; esp. in a smaller tank like yours.
 
What's the long term plan for the regular perc? Just wondering why you're putting him back in the DT if that's not where he'll end up
 
Best of luck and keep us posted. Number of nems to reduce aggression is an interesting theory and not without a fairly intuitive logic
 
A mated pair can easily claim 50gal of real estate, & it's never a sure thing that they'll take to an anemone...A 60gal tank is nowhere near large enough to even consider this. At least change rockwork to block view of other side of tank...

Luckily i have had good luck with my clowns hosting my anemones both my ercula & picasso host a rbta unless the picasso is not in the mood of sharing, it will scare off the little percula into my other nem. The darwin was already tying to get hosted by the rbta but when i introdced the picasso again
He got kicked out & he started to try & host both my torch & frogspawn.
