Picasso/Snowcasso/Platinum Owners

Does anyone regret buying them? I know that's kind of an odd question, but I'm making a clown/nem species tank and am really looking for a neat pair of clowns. If my tank was a mixed reef with lots of fish and corals I wouldn't spend the money, but they'll be the centerpiece of the tank, so the focus will (obviously) be much more on them.

I really like unique fish, and would like to buy a pair of picassos or snowcassos (or similar) but am having a bit of a hard time justifying the extra cost.

For argument's sake, I'm also considering a pair of Allardi clowns. (Or possibly saddlebacks)..

So, please post away with your thoughts/opinions on this :)

Thanks in advance.

In most cases, the cost of the fish is negligible compared to the overall cost of the hobby. Get what you like. With that said, I have three pairs of clowns and the plain old occelaris are my favorite.

I have a spawning pair of gold stripe maroons in a BTA, a spawning pair off occs in a gigantea (avatar), and a pair of Sanjay Black Photons hosting a BTA (no spawn yet, still kinda young).

No doubt my picassos are my favorite fish, and they were the centerpiece of my nem tank.
However, mine are A's just because I got a great trade, and if I had to buy them outright, I may have settled for B's, and I've seen many B's I like just as much or better than some A's.
It's also just about the crazy random pattern for me as well.
My favorite fish have nothing to do w/ what they cost either, in fact some of my expensive fish were absolute buttheads.

dave, those clowns in your avatar are great. The pair I am looking at are actually B's.

And I agree with you about expense not necessarily relating.. I've had very inexpensive fish (like a neon goby or starry blenny) that were some of my favorites, while some of my more expensive fish weren't favorites. However, it better be a 'favorite' if I'm going to spend 'good money' on fish.

(And to think a few years ago I wouldn't spend more than $10 on a single fish.. )

I have a small tank(20 gallons) and therefore won't be able to keep some of the many more decorative species of fish, so I would also like to have some very nice fish. One is a pair of clownfish. I have looked at pretty much all of the exotic "hybrid" clowns, and honestly, I don't particularly like the look of snowcasso and wyoming whites. TOO much white. I like the regular picassos because they have creative white patterns, and lots of contrast between the white, black, and orange. I also like the B&W look. I am not terribly concerned about the cost of these 2 fish, because as stated, compared to the overall cost of the hobby, fish(pretty much all fish) are cheap.

I think you should also keep in mind your nem choice too. Planning the nem color and fish color can make a really great contrast. My personal favorite is my RBTA and wild caught clarkii clown. A very close second would be an RBTA and Onyx clown. I really like the contrast between the fish and anemone. For example, an RBTA and maroon clown don't do much for me because they're both similar color. However, Maroon clown and GBTA can look pretty cool.

It doesn't matter how much you spend on the fish, as long as you really like it.

I have a pair of Snowflakes and Grade A Picassos, and I will be getting a pair of Platinums, the Picassos are my favorite clowns out of all of them, now it depends if u want to spend the extra cost on those type of fish, but personally I like them all.

As a Grade a owner and a Snowflake O. owner. I would say that the pair of Grade A's are second only to my single Snowflake O. female.......I'm looking for another male or juvie as one of my pair never made it through shipping stress years ago.

My snowflake is ALWAYS out and in front of my rock.

Well, I just ordered a pair of onyx clowns.

Hopefully they'll color up really nice!

Cool, love the onyx as well.
That was what was in my other tank, and when I condensed both to just one tank it was hard to part w/ them, but the picassos won that one.
Good luck on yours.

here is my Platinum clown.. absolutly the hardest fish to photograph, she never holds still.. here's the best i have done so far.... i really like her and plan to pair her up with a black misbar.....
