Pick 6'x4' or 8'x3' reef tank?

If you had to pick one that to be viewed from front and back, in a bookshelf room divider, which would you go for and why? The height will be 30".

I love wide tanks, but i think 3 ft is plenty. I'd vote for the 8 footer.

ditto

I have a 3' wide tank and would love the extra width, especially if viewing from both sides. Why can't you do the 8'x4' ?

Would love an 8x4 but the 4 letter word (wife) wants room. Thanks for the opinions, hope to pull the trigger today.

I would agree and go for 6 x 4 since it will give you lot more depth and give better chance for fish to create their own spacing.

Decision is yours end of the day...

Good luck.

this is why i love wide tanks. if i could get something wider than a 32 through the door i would. but sadly i could only get a 30 inch thru the door.

a little off topic but everyone should check out that tank in the link. Its amazing. has it ever been tank of the month? the width really makes it seem like its a mini ocean. go for the width.

Accidently order 8x4 and just hide all the tape measures in the house. :D For a room divider I'd go with the 8x3... I'd do the 6x4 if you had 3 visible sides.

yup!

I agree width is just as important as length, often we comprise on length and the aquascape ends up looking like a wall with little to no depth or character. A 2:1 ratio of length to width is perfect.

i would do 8x3 also. i really think you get more options that way. 2' of lenght gives your more options than 1' extra in width...

Yep, 8X3. You have to also think about the lighting on both tanks. I believe it is a lot easier to light a 36" wide tank than a 48" wide tank unless you want to double up.
I would also rather have the length for the tangs to have longer swimming space.
