Picked Up a Couple of New Pieces So Got The Camera Out

Hey Guys,

Been awhile since I posted. Not too much has changed. Everything has been left alone and is growing nicely. Tank is running mostly on auto-pilot and I am just responsible for cleaning the glass. My alkalinity has stablized thanks to ACESQ (Art) lending me his CO2 Regulator. I need to buy a new one and haven't been able to either pull the trigger on a Greenleaf, or build my own using a swagelok.

I haven't added any fish or corals for awhile. We had the local club meeting here, and we had a contest to count the fish in the tank. The correct count was 125 fish. I am lazily battling majanos and aptasia. I bought about 30 Peppermint shrimp a few months back. They all vanished into the tank. Then a couple of weeks later while playing with a flashlight at night I find about 15 huddled together in a cave. Right outside the cave are 4 gigantic aptasia which remain untouched.

I had a matted file fish outside in my rock bin, and I have a copper band and there arent any visible aptasia outside. So I caught the filefish and added him to the display tank. He's a neat fish and is cool to watch. He's nice and fat, but I have no idea what he is eating in the tank. I can't see him eating anything.

The majanos are taking over the back wall of the tank by the overflow. I have a majano wand, but am not convinced it's erradicating them. If anyone knows where I can find some large gauge syringes to start kalk injecting them please let me know.

The Xenia are thriving in the tank. I am pruning out about 150 heads of xenia a month. I have given them away to anyone who wants locally.

I finally added a few new corals, so I thought it was time to take some photos. First up is an Efflo that I picked up about 3 weeks ago. I got it and it was pretty brown, but i like the fact that it wasn't flat and had some nice growth nodules in the middle of it. It's starting to get some color to it.

I also got the opportunity to grow out what could be a really special coral. This is a piece of a monti, that is Gold, Orange and Green with blue polyps. This photo was taken when the coral had only been in the tank for about an hour. The deal was I get the coral, and as soon as it triples in size, I give back the new growth.

So those are the new pieces, here are some growth update photos of some of my favorites:

Tank is looking great Dave and congrats on the new pieces. btw when are you planning to host another Frag swap? Its been almost a year ;)

Lawrence,

Drag your butt to the valley and I am happy to give you some xenia. I just harvested 150+ stalks last week and they are floating around in the frag tank outside. This xenia is a really strong strain I have had it through the last crash almost 2 years ago.

Coral Nerd -- Thank You

Monkie - Thanks

MisterJimmy - Will definitely host another swap once the summer heat wave is over.

Dave tank is looking great!

Try injecting majanos with vinegar, I was having a hard time getting a few large Aptaisia in a tough spot because I could not get the Kalk paste in the oral disk. I injected Vinegar in the foot with a small needle and they melted away.

I dropped 3 peppermint shrimp in my frag tank and they cleaned the aptaisia within a few days because no fish in that system, caught them messing with the baby Bounce shrooms and ejected them to the sump. They were eating Bounce Bubbles so just a word of caution.

I have never had Majanos yet and I do not look forward to the day. I live with a large Coperband in my display that keeps the Aptaisia pretty clean in my tank, too bad he eats Acans, Meat coral, Scolly's, and many other LPS. It is making me go towards SPS only. There are a couple of those fish I have a love hate relationship with.

Good luck with the battle and the tank is inspiring!

Ngvu,

Last weekend I trimmed Monti Cap, Xenia and Green Birdnest. I offerred those up for free but only had one taker.

Last night I trimmed two of the stags, and accidentally my Oregon Tort, so there are a few different frags making there way out to the frag tank,

Rik,

A mermaid, Come now I'm married now with a wife who loves and supports the tank, I'm not risking that with another woman in the house!

If I had a mermaid I would give her to Corey, but since he still doesn't have water in his tank she would probably die lonely and dry in the bag.

Scott,

I don't have any rare mushrooms in my tank. I do have all kinds of LPS which made me nervous about adding the File fish. Since his introduction I notices a single Duncan head having a rough time, but he doesn't pay any attention to it when I am watching him, so not sure if it's the culprit or just natural selection/attrition taking place.

Joe,

Thanks, I thought this one was efflo, I thought soli had the branches on the edge of the disk that interweaved together.
