Picked up the Neptune wav pumps

I just picked up the starter kit (2 pumps)at Salty Critter this evening.
I will be replacing 2 Vortech MP 60's and a MP 40.:celeb3:

My tank is a 300 DD peninsula. All 3 vortechs and the returns were on the back wall of the tank and controlled by my apex using the WXM with changing flow patterns all day

The MP's 60's did provide enough flow until they got dirty/ cake with algae and slimmed over. They were also loud!

Initial observations

The wav pumps are slightly bigger than the MP 60
Each pump is capable of 4k GPH
The mounts are solid and allows for the pumps to change up and down angles (that is a big plus over the vortechs static mount!):bounce1:
They are extremely quiet. Not even a hum!
Programming them on the APEX was about the same as it was with the Vortechs. The preset flow patterns are pretty much the same as vortechs (different names) and it allows changing flow rates for each preset as well as Mirror (sync) and Inverse (anti-sync)
No silly wireless sync to get them to talk to the apex ( I did have to upgrade the firmware on the apex but it was painless)
the 1link box will control 3 pumps and only requires 1 power cord
Neptune has incorporated some nifty safety feature to prevent burn out

I have them programmed to change flow rates over a 24 hour period and so far I am impressed. They are matching what the MP 60's were doing as far as water movement.

The cost for the kit of 2 pumps is less than 1 MP 60.

I plan on changing angles of the pumps for cross flows and experimenting with the flow profiles.

Updates needed. setting up a 60 x 24 x24 =150 tank soon and am trying to decide what type of flow pumps to get.

why isn't anyone updating their experience with these?

Did they not live up to the hype? Do they also suck after being caked over with algae?

Any info is appreciated

hmm, still would like to hear some reviews on them. Was thinking of going with good ol' Tunze's but wasn't sure if these were any better.

I had MP40w (2) on my 150 same as the OP with WXM driving different profiles throughout the day. Agree with the OP the wavs are quieter although not sure that would be true with QDs.

MPs could take algae and some calcium deposits without stopping. WAVs cannot i keep dkh and cal high and wavs had alarms in less than 30 days but very sporadic i soaked them in vinegar alarms cleared another two weeks alarms again decided to ignore them since the mp40s didn't have alarms, pumps froze. When I tried to take the cover off I bumped the housing on the prop and it broke, I definitely like the twist lock on the mp40s better. Impeller housing had to be removed with channel locks and rubber pad, this is common in wavs where impeller can't be removed by hand. Called Neptune on the prop said its my fault so on a less than 60 day old $200 powerhead had to pay $44.95 for a new impeller, typical lack of customer service.

The above said, I like the 1link better than the cord and magnetic wet side of the mp40s, I think they are quiet and easy to manage. But cheaply made compared to mp40 and support is always the customers fault.

When these are a year or so old and my wife permits the expense I'll be going to QDs. I do not recommend moving parts with Apex support.

I’m far from a professional but I did purchase 2 pumps which hook straight to the apex 2016. I have a lps/soft coral tank and they were to powerful even toned down to 0% I bet they would be perfect for a sps tank. I now use them in my water storage tanks. Probably overkill but I like to adjust them to run hard for a short time just to keep stuff from settling. They are cool though

I had them for alittle over a year on my 300dd. Both pumps died within weeks of each other. Out of warranty but Neptune did tell me to send them back for repair they would let me know cost for repair. I get email saying they shipped a replaced one pump and replaced propeller on other. During that time install jebao and have been in the tank ever sense. I did sell the wavs after I received them back. They do have great costumer service for repairing them out of warranty.

I have four of them on my 220 for over a year now and haven't had any issues at all. Tons of flow and super quiet. I clean them about every 4 months. Just take them out of tank and soak them in a little vinegar and water for a little bit and use a small toothbrush to clean them off.
