Pics of Large Acro Colonies

Maybe I'm not hitting enough threads, but I never see any of the shots of large colonies like I used to in the past. A tennis ball-sized one seems to be about as large as I ever see. I guess everyone is fragging their colonies as soon as they reach a certain size?
I'm working out the plans for a 300DD. I keep thinking about just doing 2-4 nice acro colonies, and a whole load of small reef fish (anthias, etc). But if the best I can hope for is a softball out of each colony, it'd probably look a little silly.
I don't care if they're brownies, I'd just like to see what kind of luck people are having growing out acros in their tanks nowadays.

You're looking in the wrong threads, but it also takes quiet awhile, years, to grow out acros to be that big. There's a reason I have birdsnests and monti caps as the first SPS I put in my system. Have some acros in there now, but I am going to be pretty selective with what goes in.

how's this? I haev to trim the purple one a lot, he kills anything he touches and most of what he overshadows

I have similarly sized colonies on either end of my 350G, grown that large in just over 2 years.

I've also included a recent FTS for (my) fun :)

Seen that tank in person. Looks amazing! That piece of blue/green I got off you is already growing.

Glad to hear it Kyle. I've had a rough go since then with some of my corals, including my prized red dragon. Struggling with phosphates up near .5, have darn too many fish I think :)

I have considered doing something similar, but I find it hard to limit myself to just a few corals. The concept of a tank with few massive corals and 1 type of fish is cool. It would take a couple of years and lots of restraint to make it happen in a 300DD. They will get bigger than softball sized, I have bigger than that in my 60 already after 15 months.

Here are some pics from my former 225 gallon tank.

I still go search your old threads ReefBum to see that PM colony. One of the biggest I've ever seen. Was lucky to have a piece of it with lineage direct to yours, but lost it in an alk crash unfortunately. Welcome back btw

Thanks! Now I am going to have to find a piece when I am ready for SPS!
