Here is what it looked like a year ago

Plants took over.
The plants are what filters it, that and a protein skimmer.

I used that background to hide the skimmer and filter.
When I took off the filter and put on a new skimmer, I replaced the backgroud with blue.
Lots of cool, little animals growing in the tank.

That is one cool mantis shrimp! I have heard they can crack the glass on heaters and sometimes tank glass. Is this true? if so has it happened to you?

I don't mind the Aiptasia. I like how it eats up the fish food.
I have a tomato clown that shares the tank with my mantis.
The Aiptasia is actually fading away. There was more but the plants and xenia have taken over and it’s going away.
The Aiptasia doesn't even come close to the take over of the pom pom xenia.
I put one piece of xenia in my mantis tank and within a month I had 7 pcs.
I think it’s because my xenia is tank raised from my other tank.

Spreads like a weed!!!

gemini aquarius(t)

The tank is 16" H x 13" W x 24" L
Lots of live rock with pvc and a 2" to 3" bed of black sand.
Tons of little creatures live in the sand and rock.

I am sure a large mantis could crack the glass of a tank.
My other peacock has blown holes thru turbo snails.
Turbo snails have a very strong shell.
My mantis don't really hit the walls of the tanks.
They usually just beat up there food.

henry, do a bit more researh on iodine; it is a very controversial supplement, that I believe shouldn't be dosed at all until we get better quality test kits. iodine is very hard to detect accurately and our dinky kits just don't cut it. Besides, any and all iodine necessary will get into the tank by feeding and the salt you use. dosing blind is just asking for things to go wrong.

raman, wow, you sure like your leathers and xenia! Im not surprised you don't need a skimmer. Your display is basically a big fuge already.

I had to cut my leather because it was getting too big.
This is the 3rd time I have cut it and it seems to be getting bigger each time it grows back.
Here is a pic of my leather right before I cut it down.

i think thats the biggest leather i have ever seen in a tank.

cool littlemantis tank though. i looks like the back part of a lagoon/tidepool area. very nice.
