Hello:

I mentioned on a few different threads that I had trained my SHs to eat from their food bowl, its really not hard to do, just keep putting food in the same place always and they will eventually wait for their food bowl to be filled with mysis.

Cateyes:

These guys are Erectus. They are very hardy and the fact that they eat from the bowl exclusively makes it much easier to maintain good water quality since you can remove excess food from their bowl every day right before adding more.

You know your are not helping! Every sence I was a little girl I have wanted seahorses. They have been a dream fopr a long time. I have the tank for a pair now, but I still need to set it up. Then after seeing the price for a pair I had decided to go ahead and set the tank up with seahouse friendly tank mates and if it take a couple years to afford them so be it. Then you come along with these great pics and I am getting not so willing to wait! LOL

I want some red horsies really bad! cant find them anywhere. How are the shrimp in there with them? okay? what else do you have in the tank with the horsies? how do you keep your macro algae alive?

Mikeeee:

I have had the Seahorses for about 1 year, originally I had them in a 35 Gal Tall Hex but about 8 months ago I got myself a 55 gal ELOS tank which I am very happy with.

In the 55 I have the following:

Fish:
2 Mated Pairs of Erectus
Mated pair of Pink Skunk Clown
Mated pair of Scooter Blennys (these guys also eat mysis from the bowl)
and a tiny tiny wartskin angler; I know he should not be in there but he is simply too small for my angler tank and he would be eaten... he wont be there for long, for now he has been a model citizen! (we will see how long that lasts)

Invertebrates:
Mated Pair of Coral Banded Shrimp
Mated Pair of Cleaner Shrimp
Mated Pair of Peppermint Shrimp
Mated Pair of Camel Shrimp

All my mated pairs have constantly babies with the exception of my seahorses (which I am expecting to start soon)

Ill try to post some more pics of all the couples...

Regards,

E

i thought they might be Erectus just haven't seen a red one before...
i have a 40tall set up and am about ready to add a pair to it, Erectus is deffinatly what i want...

thanks for the feeding pics... what are you using to get the mysis to the feeding station?? i need something long so i don't have to stick my arm all the way into the tank..

with the other fish in the tank do you ever have to remove leftovers before adding fresh food? seems like the other fish and shrimp would clean it up fast, how do you keep them out of the horses feeding station?

thanks a lot,,, lisa

Feeding Station

Feeding Station

Lisa:

I remove leftovers from the feeding station every morning, usually there are very little leftovers however sometimes there is a little more... I just use the same feeding tube and I put my thumb over the tube to create a suction and suck everything (including the sand) from the shell.

The tube I got from my LFS, they cost about $2 and are generally 3-4' long, all I did is cut to the right length and that is all.

Other fish come and come from the feeding station but generally dont compete for the food, I make sure there is enough for everyone so that it will last the whole day.

Estefano
