I agree. It looks like a crocea. One note though, crocea are called the boring clam for their tendency to bore down into the rock that they naturally live on. You might want to move it up from the sand and place it securely on the rockwork until it grabs hold itself.
Thanks for the advice. I will be sure and place it on a rock soon. I currently am in the process of getting an 80g withing the next week or so and I will wait to place my LR in there to decide where I want to put it. Will it bo ok on my sand for the next month or so while the 80 cycles?
You should really put it on some sort of rock, or shell. They also need to be high to get enough light. If you have 250w MH then it should be ok down there light wise. If you have less, you might want to move him higher.
Ok. I will move up higher to light. However I have one more question. Can this clam attach itself to the sand? I tried pulling it up but it seems pretty clenched to the sand. Can I go ahead and apply a little pressure when I pull it out of the sand without damaging it?
Do clams change color with light? I had my clam on the sand and it looked like pics above. Now I place on LR near top and now it looks purple and blue. What would be the true colors of my crocea clam?
If it's attached byssal threads to the sand that's no big deal.
The way we percieve the clam's color changes with angles. THe "true color" is seen when looking straight down at the mantle. Which is why many clam keepers buy special tanks to view from above.
